High-achieving and culturally diverse, Chief Joseph Elementary School, located in Meridian, Idaho, prides itself on its unwavering dedication to ‘growing’ its 550 kindergarten through fifth grade students, as well as on its strong sense of community, integration of the arts, and attention to individual needs!
In 2018, Chief Joseph School was honored by the state as an ‘exemplary high-performing school’ and celebrated as one of two Blue Ribbon Schools in Idaho. During the 2019-2020 school year, Chief Joseph was recognized on the national level for its success, and received the National Blue Ribbon School designation!
Chief Joseph students are held to a high standard, within a school culture of kindness, calm and respect, and staff work hard to ensure that all children learn. At Chief Joseph, staff assume a collective accountability for students, and regularly come together as teams to plan interventions, map curriculum, and analyze data.
Student growth and progress is celebrated through daily announcements, vibrant displays of art and writing, all-school assemblies, and classroom celebrations of goals met. Chief Joseph’s arts-infused curriculum helps students develop and utilize the higher-order thinking skills that will help them throughout their lives. Families are welcome partners in their children’s education, and are encouraged to volunteer in classrooms, attend the school’s frequent parent involvement events, and stay in close communication with teachers.
More than 40% of Chief Joseph students receive free or reduced price meals, and nearly 15% are English Language Learners. The school’s diversity contributes to its success, as students learn through experience that every member has unique talents and strengths. Attendance is closely monitored and instruction stretches from bell to bell. Valued and loved, each student at Chief Joseph School is taught the tools to be a ‘Chief Joseph Champion’, an exemplary citizen and a lifelong learner!
Chief Joseph School is a ‘school of choice’ in the West Ada district.
