Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Cindy Compton
I was born in Japan, but grew up all over because my dad was in the Navy. I always lived by the ocean growing up, so that's where I feel the most at home. My dad retired early so we moved to western Montana when I was in high school. I have been married 41 years and have two grown children, Melissa and Jonathan. Melissa and her husband Christian live in Boise and have a two month old son named Conrad. Jonathan and his wife Laci have two children ages 7and 5, and its fun when we get to see them, but its not often enough since they live in Massachusetts.
I've been teaching over 25 years, 20 years in public schools and five years running my own tutoring business. I have my Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Nebraska. In 2005, I earned my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Reading Specialist certification K-12 from University of Idaho. I also ran a tutoring business in Sandpoint, Idaho for five years emphasizing Reading and Math for grades K-12. After years of classroom teaching, it was fun to meet with kids one on one, but I missed the classroom. I taught in the Nampa School District for a number of years and joined West Ada School District four years ago. This will be my second year at Christine Donnell School of Arts. It has been a wonderful experience being a part of a school which integrates Art and Music into students' lives.
Some of my hobbies include writing, bluegrass music, gardening and wire wrapping jewelry. My all time favorite activity is agate hunting on the Oregon Coast. I have written and published a book called Run the Rivers with Lewis and Clark. I love exercising and outdoor activities like fishing, golfing and camping. Since I love writing and grew up with an artist mother, I integrate both of those subjects into our studies. Students are always eager to work with all kinds of art techniques to enhance their writing, science or history projects.
