Spring is sprung
  • And we're off...

I just finished a spirited video chat with my middle school vocal majors. Memes were flying and it was clear they were very comfortable communicating with each other this way. They are normally a high energy group and today was no exception. While I moderated, they wove in and out of my attempts at keeping order. They are a clever bunch!

High school students, where are you? I have heard from just a few of my (comparably) large class. While I know that many of you are being creative in a variety of ways, I'd love to see/hear what you've been up to and how you're doing.

I am adapting to this new way of doing things. Mr. Falconer (who is also a teacher) and I talk every day about the challenges we face in regards to how best to get in touch with our students, and what modes of technology will work best  to engage and encourage, both students and ourselves. At the end of the day I ask myself what worked that day, what didn't, and what needs to be changed up.

A routine is critical, I think: I've been getting up every morning and running. It's a great start to my day and makes me feel like I've accomplished something right off the bat. Then a healthy breakfast and I'm ready for our staff meeting. There are video conferences throughout the week that I plan around. Office hours at 1:00 prepare me for my afternoon work.

Have you come up with a weekday routine yet? I suspect most of you have thought, "I've got to plan a daily schedule" but might not have gotten around to doing it. There's a good first step!

    Hello IFAA music students!

Our journey officially begins the week of April 13th as I know you are all aware of by now.

Until we all become thoroughly comfortable with using the Teams platform, you will find any materials I've posted there, posted here (I hope - I might need a reminder!).

As of this post, I have "populated" the middle school and high school vocal majors' Teams sites. You should have received an email from me inviting you to join. I look forward to seeing your responses!

Next week we'll start with Vocal Majors Lite: get to know Teams, explore your assignment, keep in touch with me and your peers. Please remember this is a school platform and your entries need to be school appropriate: kind, thoughtful, and responsible.

My thoughts are with you all, individually and with your families: I hope you are well and finding beauty in the coming of spring and lovely weather.Spring beauty
