In a matter of weeks Idaho has moved from low to high activity based on the reports from the CDC. Parents, please be aware of the symptoms and keep kids home when they're feeling ill. If your student is complaining of symptoms but is afebrile, please monitor them closely. We really appreciate if you don't give them tylenol or ibuprofen and then send them to school because it's very hard for me to know the severity of their symptoms if they have medicine on board. We're hopeful the long weekend gives everyone rest and recovery.
Influenza (also known as flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Flu is different from a cold. Flu usually comes on suddenly. People who are sick with flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:
- Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Muscle or body aches
- Fatigue (tiredness)
- Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
*It’s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever.
