Degrees and Certifications:
Miss BriAnna Crook
I have loved music for as long as I can remember. I got my first real taste of music in Kindermusik, and then began piano lessons when I was 7. In elementary school I was involved in as many ensembles as I could, including choir, bell choir, and orchestra playing the violin. By the time I was old enough for junior high I decided I needed to add in a third instrument, the oboe, which has been my love and passion ever since. In high school I played piano in the jazz ensemble and oboe in the wind ensemble and a local youth orchestra. I knew from the middle of my junior year that I wanted to be a music teacher.
I started my journey to become a music teacher at Snow College, where I had many amazing performance opportunities. We performed with BYU Vocal Point, Kevin Olusola (Pentatonix), Jenny Oaks Baker, Nathan Pacheco, and Kurt Bestor. We even had the incredible opportunity to take a trip to Costa Rica, where we performed for elementary school students and did a mentorship activity with band students from a local high school. Working with those kids further fueled my desire to become a teacher.
At the end of my first year of college, I had the amazing opportunity to serve a church mission in Hong Kong. I was there for 18 months and my musical background made learning to fluently speak the tonal language of Cantonese much easier. While I was there, I grew an immense love for the Chinese people and other Asian cultures. My time in Hong Kong also sparked a love for the music of many Middle-Eastern and Asian cultures.
Upon my return from Hong Kong, I began my study of Music Education at Boise State University. I student taught at Andrus Elementary, Sugar Salem Junior High and Sugar Salem High School. I graduated with my Bachelor Degree in Music Education in May of 2019.
I am excited to be a Pioneer Puma and have many great things planned for the year!
