What is Assistive Technology?

  • Assistive Technology (AT) is any item or system that allows a student to participate in his or her educational program.  These items may be “no tech”/“low-tech” such as a picture symbol schedule, pencil grips, or colored reading paper; or “hi-tech”, such as a talking word processor or a voice output communication device used to “speak” for a student who has limited or no speech ability.
