Parent Involvement Policy

  • Building the Knowledge and Skills of Parents and Guardians

    Parents are their children’s first and best teachers. According to research, the most successful children have parents who are highly supportive of their children in school. The following policy will help to provide parents with the skills and knowledge to increase and to improve parent participation and parent involvement.

     District Parent Involvement Policy

    1. Provide parents/guardians with the information necessary:

    - To understand standards and assessments.
    - To understand school programs and curriculum.
    - To work with teachers to keep track of their child’s progress.
    - To be able to ask for the qualifications of instructional staff.

    2. Increase and improve parents/guardians ability to help their child achieve by providing:

    - Materials to practice skills taught at school.
    - Meetings to teach parents how to use the materials.
    - Meetings to teach parents how to help with homework.
    - Support when requested by parents-within reason.

    3. Increase teachers’ knowledge of:

    - How to communicate with parents.
    - How to work with parents as partners.
    - How to encourage parents to share knowledge.

    4. Provide parents/guardians of preschoolers with:

    - Materials to prepare their child for school.
    - Classes to teach parents how to use the materials.
    - Support when requested by parents-within reason.

    5. Provide parents with information about school activities, meetings, and programs in the native language and format that is easy to understand to the extent possible.
