     Flu (Influenza) Season is Coming!

For millions of people each year, the flu can cause a fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, muscle aches, chills, and miserable days spent in bed instead of at work or school. However, you may not realize that more than 200,000 people are estimated to end up in the hospital from flu complications each year in the United States.

According to the Center for Disease Control an annual flu vaccination is the best way to prevent the flu as well as flu-related complications that could lead to severe illness and hospitalization. Health experts across the country recommend that everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine. Flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctors' visits, missed school/work due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations.

Your child should stay home from school when he/she has a fever >100° F that is accompanied by sore throat, headache, nausea, rash, muscle aches or listlessness.

Contact your doctor or the Meridian Schools Clinic (208-514-2527) to vaccinate your student against the flu.  Now is the time to get your flu immunization!
