Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by National Dairy Council and National Football League, in collaboration with United States Department of Agriculture. The program encourages youth to consume nutrient-rich foods (low-fat and fat-free milk and milk products, fruits, vegetables and whole grains and lean protein foods) and achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
At Ponderosa, Fuel Up to Play 60 has helped us create and sustain a culture of wellness. Evidence indicates that obesity, physical inactivity and poor nutrition are associated with lower levels of school achievement. Ponderosa has received substantial funding each year through grant writing by Mrs. Stoor. Funding for this program is generously provided by Idaho dairy farm families! Some sustainable projects that Fuel Up to Play 60 has helped fund are: transforming our lunchroom to promote a healthy eating environment, Pacers our run/walk program, Ramp Up for Recess-Play Shed that holds new recess equipment, Fuel Up Fridays-smoothie breakfasts that are an option for students and staff. They also provide incentives that encourage students to "Finish It" in the lunchroom.
Fuel Up to Play 60 has also provided exciting opportunities for our students including Breakfast on the Blue, a Seattle Seahawk player visit by Justin Britt by a winning video contest "For the Love of Play" and another winning video for "Fuel Up on the Go" with the Idaho Dairy Council and Jacksons Food Stores winning $2,000.
