Mrs. Karen Havey

This is my 30th year teaching music. I love every minute of it!
I teach kindergarten and first through fifth grades at Ponderosa Elementary School for the West Ada School District.

I was born in Michigan, grew up in Mesa, Arizona, and went to college in Flagstaff, AZ at Northern Arizona University. My first teaching positions were at Sedona/Oak Creek and then in Apache Junction.
I moved to Idaho about 25 years ago with my husband Brian. We have been married for 34 years! We have two sons, Carlin, 34 and Sean, 24. Carlin graduated from University of Utah in Salt Lake City and Sean graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman. Our family members love the outdoors: skiing, fishing, hunting, camping, boating, rafting, and more.  I like to travel; recently, I went to Italy (Spring Break 2018) and Ireland (Summer of 2019).
My other hobbies include playing my trumpet in the Treasure Valley Concert Band, road biking, mountain biking, walking & running, and shopping. The only breed of dog I've ever had is Siberian Husky. Kiara was my first dog in 1998 and now we have Bella (7) and Ruby (2).
Of all the things I like to do (besides teaching music), I love spending time with my friends and family.
Ponderosa is like my second family (all the staff and students).
