Lit. Lab is a tier two intervention class which uses a specific curriculum and progress monitoring to support the building of student’s skills in comprehension. Some of the skill building topics we practice for comprehension are: vocabulary, using context clues, composing sentences with vocabulary words, grammar, character analysis, sentence type, chronology etc. To support the skills of comprehension we also write. The focus is on the paragraph, the building block of larger works. Using the step up to writing format students write paragraphs over a wide variety of topics using the same organized structure. This repetition of how to organize a paragraph helps students move past the confusion of how to write a piece and move quickly to focus on what to write.
