  • Derek has spent the last 20 years heavily involved in the marching arts and has worked with numerous ensembles throughout the northwest. Throughout his performance career, he's had the opportunity to perform at competitions and events across the country, including the 1999 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA and 2001 Macy*s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. He earned his Bachelor's of Music Education from the University of Montana - Missoula with honors in 2006, studying Percussion under Dr. Robert LedBetter and conducting under Dr. Steven Bolstad. In 2008, he was hired as Director of Bands to open Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian, Idaho and quickly established a winning reputation with the young ensemble. While at Rocky Mountain High School, Derek was nationally recognized in School Band and Orchestra Magazine as Idaho’s sole representative in the 50 Directors Who Make A Difference feature. He is currently pursuing his Master’s of Science in Predictive Analytics at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. As an instructor, Derek has worked with Mountain View High School (ID), Glencoe High School (OR), Hillsboro High School (OR), Rocky Mountain High School (ID), Timberline High School (ID), Carson High School (NV), Hermiston High School (OR), Meridian High School (ID), C.E. King High School (TX), and Eagle High School (ID). Derek's shows have taken High Visual Captions at shows in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho and Utah.
