• Overview

Students will meet the Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) criteria as they fabricate a series of projects. Students will use the Design and Modeling unit from the Pre-Engineering Gateway to Technology curriculum. Students will become familiar with a variety of engineering and related careers through problem-solving projects.

    Pre-Engineering Curriculum:

Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Gateway is a middle school program designed to help students explore STEM subjects. By engaging in hands on, real-world projects, students understand how the skills they learn can be applied in everyday life. Students will work cooperatively as a class or in small groups as they integrate mathematics, science, technology, and language arts skills to solve complex problems.

    Objectives:

Seventh grade students will be introduced to Design and Modeling. This is an exploratory class for nine weeks only.

    • Students are introduced to and use the design process to solve problems and understand the influence that creative and innovative design has on our lives.
    • Students sketch and use 3D modeling software to create a virtual image of their designs.
    • Students build prototypes of designs using the engineering design process
    • Students test designs by collecting data and analyzing results

    Grading:

    Assessments: 60%

    Projects:    40%

    Communication:

Most assignments are in OneNote. In this class, academic feedback is provided for all students on PowerSchool. For it to be effective, I highly encourage that all parents and students check PowerSchool at least once a week. Beyond this, if concerns or questions should arise, students should speak with me in a timely manner.  I am here to offer help and support so you can feel successful in this class.
