Hello Parents! and Cell PhonesPosted by TIMOTHY CHANDLER on 8/28/2018
Hello Parents! This page is specifically for you. I probably will not post here on a regular basis, but occassionally I will inform you of happenings in class, major events upcoming, or interesting things I find in my research that you may find helpful when helping your students at home. First off I would like to invite you to contact me at any time with any comments, questions, or concerns about your kids. The students I have seen over the years with the highest amount of parent involvement usually perform at high levels of academic acheivement. I have included my syllabi for US History 10 and 11. Please look closely at the third page. The Unit Capsone Projects will be the most important learning activities your kids will engage in this year. My email is here:
I have watched over the last several years, the evolution of smartphones and their use in class. It has been a topic of discussion among educators worldwide about the possible uses. While we have debated and experimented with their use in class I have noticed that they usually are not used for constructive purposes by our kids. Now scientific research is supporting the idea that too much usage is negatively affecting our youth (and ourselves). With this in mind I have posted Centennial's cell phone policy that I will be enforcing in my class along with some research articles you may find useful in your own efforts at finding a balance of device usage in your own home, especially with your youth.
