Degrees and Certifications:
Unit 1: Generations and Relationships--Reading Literary Text/Transition to Argument
Students will cite textual evidence, determine a theme and central idea, write objective summaries, a narrative, and an argument. Students will also demonstrate a command of the conventions of standard English.
Unit 2: A Starry Home—Reading Information Text
Students will cite text evidence, gather relevant information from reliable print and digital sources, write arguments, and demonstrate a command of the conventions of standard English.
Unit 3: Facing Adversity—Reading Informational Text
Students will determine the theme of literary text and analyze its development, write informative/explanatory texts, gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, develop listening and presentation skills, and demonstrate a command of the conventions of standard English.
Unit 4: People and the Planet—Reading Literary Text with an emphasis on various genres
Students will read and comprehend literary nonfiction, including stories, dramas, and poems. The student will write narratives and write routinely over extended time frames and short time frames for range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences. The student will demonstrate a command of the conventions of standard English.
Grades will be weighted based upon the following categories and percentage of final grade:
