Hello, fellow Patriotsl!
This is my 17th year as an English teacher and my first year at Centennial. I am so excited to be at CHS teaching Sophomores and Juniors!
I became an English teacher because I fell in love with figurative language and the way that authors use fictional stories to guide the reader through the reality of the human experience. English may be a tough language to master with its idioms and confusing pronunciations (Why do we say "enough" and "tough," but we also say "through?" Why is it "polish" with a small p and "Polish" with a capital P? Why is every c in Pacific Ocean pronounced differently?), but that's what makes it great.
I love and appreciate the fact that every student can offer a different answer to the same question. We all have unique interpretations and insights into the texts that we read. It is our perspective on a poem, novel, short story, etc. that makes English so exciting for me. I love to listen to my students' ideas and help them prove their points using evidence from the text. The best part of teaching is getting to work together with my students to navigate the beautiful craziness that is the English language.
Outside of the classroom, I spend my time raising two wonderful kiddos, reading, and watching too much British TV. I am thrilled to be here at Centennial and excited to get to know all of my students. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my class.
