Some students struggled to complete the reading logs or lost them before Friday. I am hoping to see improvements this week.

Some students and parents have asked about Math, we don't plan on Math homework unless it is to study for a test. I highly encourage KhanAcademy.org for Math practice, but it is optional.

Wow! We just finished the 1st week of school! It has been a whirlwind this week, getting to know everyone! I am excited to see what amazing things this great group of students will accomplish this year!

    Class Information

Thank for returning forms back to me this week. I am waiting on just a couple of students to turn them in to me.  It was helpful to get to know students from your point of view.

    What we are learning-

Math - Place Value using operations and expontents

    ELA - Point of View

Writing - Short Story focus on purpose

Social Studies - Ealry settlers (Pilgrims and Pioneers)

    Homework

I will start homework on Tuesday.

As stated in the classroom policy packet-

    • Reading - For 20 minutes, students will read a book AT THEIR LEVEL and then complete a reading log. Reading log is due every Friday BUT I will check it every morning for completion.
    • Word Study - Study spelling or Greek and Latin words nightly. (Spelling and Greek and Latin words will alternate weekly). Word study will not be collected, it is up to the student to know their words by every Friday for the quizzes.
    • Unfinished work - Any unfinished classwork will also be homework.

    Communication

Email- Email is the quickest and easiest way to get in touch with me. Laney.amy@westada.org

Agendas - Students have been given an agenda. This will be filled out daily with assignments, due dates, incomplete work (that would now be homework), etc. These agendas can be reviewed with parents for more visibility into your students learning and should be brought home and back to school daily. You can also write me a note if needed, as long as your student knows to show it to me.

Homework Folders- Students will bring a folder home, each night with their reading logs. On Fridays, they will pick up their mail to bring home. This will be graded work, book order forms, news from the building or community, so check this folder on Fridays. It is the responsibility for the students to check their mail bins. I have a rule that students may not throw work away in my classroom, so that parents see the quality of work turned in to me and grades students are receiving.

PowerSchool- Check often for grades, since it is live, you can watch the growth of your student of each priority standard, as the semester progresses.
