All assessments will be based off the Idaho State Science Standards which are performance-based and modeled after the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
We will have classwork and informal checks for understanding to help students along the way with their learning.
Labs will be put in the gradebook as 0-1-2 points
Summative assessments are based directly off the standards using a proficiency scale based on mastery from 0-1-2-3-4
Students will be given the proficiency scale (similar to a rubric) at the start of larger performance-based assignments.
There are only ~2-3 topics that I give a "traditional" test throughout the year, but even then they are not multiple-choice tests and students must truly show their learning. Retakes are available and I always make sure that students have the time & support necessary to be successful.

Weekly Productivity Check
3 = Productive most/all of the time, no concerns re: behavior/time management
2 = Somewhat productive, some concerns noted re: behavior/time management
1 = Considerably unproductive, major concerns re: behavior/time management
0 = Off-task, unable to demonstrate any progress
Students will receive a weekly "grade" that is a reflection of classroom behaviors, time management, being on task, etc. Everyone starts with a 3, if there is reason for me to drop their score to a 2, then I will include a note for student and parent to understand my reasons. If the same behavior continues for 3 weeks, then I will email parents/guardians to discuss and share what is happening in the classroom.
