• Planning With a Purpose:

    According to the authors of Intentional and Targeted Teaching, Planning with a Purpose begins with intentionality.  Lesson/unit design should provide students with the necessary frame to link what they are learning to existing and new knowledge.  Planning with a purpose consists of many components: 

    1. Learning Intentions and Progressions pg. 16:  Identify the learning intentions (which provide students with information about what they will learn) and create a series of lessons that will ensure students develop proficiency 
    2. Evidence of Learning pg.33:  Students need to know how they will be expected to demonstrate the learning and how they , themselves will know if they have learned the content.  This is often referred to as success criteria
    3. Meaningful learning pg. 38:  Create learning experiences that engage  students and are aligned to the established learning intentions.  Instruction is designed for differentiated instruction based on formative assessment data, using grouping and a variety of experiences.
