Summary:

  • Below is a summary of COVID-19 protocols West Ada School District plans to follow
    as we begin the 2021-22 school year.

    Facemask IconFace Masks 

    To protect staff and students from the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus, West Ada School District is temporarily requiring all staff, students and visitors to wear masks when in a classroom and/or when social distancing is not possible, thus suspending all mask opt outs. This will begin on September 10, 2021. WASD will review the mask requirement on September 22 to determine whether the mask requirement can be lifted.

    Centers for Disease Control has issued a public health order requiring masks be worn while on public transportation, this includes school buses. We must comply with a public health order.



    Exposure Exposure/Quarantine
     

    School Based Exposure - These are individuals who were identified as an exposure to a positive individual in the classroom setting. 

    Quarantine refers to the practice of separating individuals who have had close contact with someone with COVID-19 to determine whether they develop symptoms or test positive for the disease.

    Quarantine reduces the risk of transmission if an individual is later found to have COVID-19. Quarantine for COVID-19 should last for a period of 7-10 days after the exposure has ended. Quarantine includes not leaving the quarantine location to attend activities, school, childcare, work, or visiting the community or having visitors at the location of quarantine. The exception is to seek medical care or if they qualify as a School Based Exposure.

    Community and Household ExposuresFor community exposures (sleepovers, club sports, weddings, funerals, etc.) or household exposures (someone in your household tests positive) please utilize the following resource to calculate your quarantine period and notify your child's school of absence.

    VaccinationCOVID-19 Vaccinations
     

    Students and staff in West Ada School District are not required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Individual choices regarding vaccinations should be respected.  We encourage families to study vaccine recommendations, discuss it with their health care provider and choose what they believe is best for their family.

    West Ada School District’s data dashboard webpage provides parents and staff with information about school and district COVID-19 cases. Positive cases reflect those students and staff who were infectious only while attending in-person school. The data regarding quarantines in a building reflects those individuals in quarantine due to being a close contact with an infectious individual at school.

    Issolation
    Isolation For Those Who Test Positive 
     

    Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 are required to isolate according to the guidance provided by the testing facility or medical provider.  Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 is not permitted at school or any school activities during their isolation period.

    Students, teachers, and staff are encouraged to stay home when ill.

    Classroom DeskIn the Classroom

    • Teachers and students must sanitize their hands upon entering the classroom. Building custodians will check wall mounted hand sanitizer dispensers daily to check levels and replace cartridges. Teachers are responsible for requesting individual bottles of hand sanitizer from administration.
    • Student desks should be distanced as much as possible, at least three (3) to six (6) feet apart is ideal.
    • Remind students of the need to maintain distancing and that students should only get up to move around the classroom with teacher permission and supervision that ensures adequate physical distancing as much as possible, three (3) to six (6) feet is preferable.
    • Remind students NOT TO SHARE laptops or computer keyboards, drinks, food, snacks, gum, writing utensils, tissues, face masks, make-up, chap stick, eating utensils, musical instruments, or personal items.
    • Student desks, chairs, keyboards, or other items frequently touched at the student’s desk should be cleaned between use by different students.
    • In those school buildings in which the building maintenance staff indicates that it is not possible to perform at least four air exchanges per hour, consider opening your classroom door and the classroom windows if weather allows and the open door and windows do not create excessive noise in the classroom.  You can learn more on this page Modifying Facilities


    LaptopRemote Learning Opportunities
     

    If your child has an illness, injury, or is in quarantine, West Ada School District will utilize the following protocols to ensure your student receives classroom instruction:  

    • Classroom assignments and resources will be available to students through Microsoft Teams or SeeSaw 
    • Each building will utilize a consistent Microsoft Teams/See Saw structure to support student access at home 
    • Synchronous learning opportunities will be provided for students during direct classroom instruction through Microsoft Teams 
    • Assessments/testing will be taken in the building

  • By August 2, 2021, each LEA must publicly post its Back-to-School plan and the Safe Return to In-Person Instruction with the Continuity of Services Plan Checklist. LEAs are required to review and revise their Back-to-School / Safe Return to In-Person Instruction Plan with meaningful stakeholder input no less frequently than every 6 months for the duration of the ARP ESSER grant, September 30, 2023.

    Check the box that fits your LEA’s situation to determine the revision date for the Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan.  Only check one of the following boxes.


    1.     ☐

    The LEA developed a Back-to-School plan before ARP ESSER was enacted (March 11, 2021) but the plan is missing some required elements as determined by one or more “No” responses in Table 1 or Table 2 or the Assurances section. The LEA must revise its plan to include all required elements no later than six months after it last reviewed its plan OR by November 24, 2021, whichever date is earlier.  After that, review and revise the Plan, if necessary, with meaningful input from stakeholders every six months for the duration of the ARP ESSER grant, September 30, 2023.   The revised plan must be published on the LEA’s website.


    2.     ☐

    The LEA does not have a Back-to-School plan.  By August 2, 2021, the LEA must develop a Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan and include all of the requirements identified in the Checklist.  Email the URL where the plan is posted on the LEA’s website by August 2, 2021 to Lisa English at lenglish@sde.idaho.gov.   Review and revise the Plan, if necessary, with meaningful input from stakeholders every six months for the duration of the ARP ESSER grant, September 30, 2023.


    3.    

    The LEA developed a Back-to-School plan either before or after ARP ESSER was enacted (March 11, 2021) and that plan was developed with meaningful stakeholder feedback and public input and includes all the required information as determined by all “Yes” responses in Table 1, and Table 2, and the Assurances section of this checklist. Post the Back-to-School plan and the Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan Checklist by August 2, 2021. Review and revise the Plan, if necessary, with meaningful input from stakeholders every six months for the duration of the ARP ESSER grant, September 30, 2023.   Post the revised plan on the LEA’s website.
