Summary:

  • Students benefit from in-person learning and it is West Ada’s intent to initiate all health and safety measures to prioritize in-person instruction.

     

    Positive for COVID – Now what?

    Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 should:

    • Follow the guidance from their health provider OR
    • Isolate for 5 days from the date of test or onset of symptoms. Individuals may leave isolation on day 6 if they are currently asymptomatic or symptoms significantly improved, without fever, vomiting, or diarrhea for 24 hours (without medications).


    Symptoms/Illness

    Students, teachers, and staff must stay home when exhibiting the following symptoms:

    • Fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher)
    • Vomiting and/or diarrhea (diarrhea is defined as 3 or more bouts of runny liquid stool)
    • New onset persistent cough

    Contact your healthcare provider for care advice.

    Stay home until fever, vomiting, or diarrhea has ceased for 24hrs without medication. Stay home with new onset persistent cough. May return when new onset cough is resolved. Consider wearing a mask while exhibiting symptoms.

    Students, teachers, and staff should stay home when exhibiting all other symptoms of illness.  May return if symptoms have improved after 24hrs.

    Exposure Quarantine

    Please follow the guidance given by one of the following entities:

    Please notify your child's school of the length of absence provided by one of the above entities.

    West Ada does not provide Exposure quarantine guidance.

    Remote Learning Opportunities

    West Ada utilizes district-issued student technology devices to enhance learning opportunities at school and at home. If your child is not able to access live instruction at school due to an extended illness, injury, or quarantine, remote learning opportunities are available. Please reach out to your child's teacher or building principal, to schedule a meeting and discuss the following resources:

    • Classroom assignment, assessment, and resource availability through online learning platform(s) and structures that support student access to learning at home
    • Synchronous (live/prerecorded) and/or asynchronous learning opportunities through online learning resources
    • Internet access through a free 'hotspot' service

    The Shift Away from the “What If” Planning

    As a system, we continue to identify ways to push beyond pandemic-related technology implementation, where technology is mainly used to address the 'what if' of COVID 19. In West Ada, we focus our efforts on leveraging digital tools through a more targeted and intentional instruction-driven lens.  

    • Elementary student devices - Student devices will now be sent home as needed when required for the successful completion of a specified instructional activity/assignment.  

    • Middle and high school student devices - Students are encouraged to take home their devices for charging, at-home learning opportunities, and storage.

    • Live/Pre-Recorded Lessons - Live/pre-recorded lessons, and/or other asynchronous online learning resources will be provided as needed for students who are absent due to extended illness, injury, or quarantine as noted above. Teachers may opt to use pre-recorded lessons as a tool for students who would benefit from targeted reteaching and/or review. Additionally, we will continue to use our digital tools and live/pre-recorded lessons to meet the needs of individual students as determined by a special education, Section 504, and/or school support team.  

    • School Closures due to Inclement Weather/Emergencies - Teachers will utilize technology-driven instruction and remote learning opportunities when planning for school closures due to inclement weather/emergencies. When enacted, school staff, parents/guardians, and students will be informed of this potential shift to remote instruction to plan accordingly.

    Visitors

    Visitors are allowed in buildings. Refer to student handbooks for more information.

    Events

    School events will resume and utilize mitigating measures.

  • By August 2, 2021, each LEA must publicly post its Back-to-School plan and the Safe Return to In-Person Instruction with the Continuity of Services Plan Checklist. LEAs are required to review and revise their Back-to-School / Safe Return to In-Person Instruction Plan with meaningful stakeholder input no less frequently than every 6 months for the duration of the ARP ESSER grant, September 30, 2023.

    Check the box that fits your LEA’s situation to determine the revision date for the Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan.  Only check one of the following boxes.


    1.     ☐

    The LEA developed a Back-to-School plan before ARP ESSER was enacted (March 11, 2021) but the plan is missing some required elements as determined by one or more “No” responses in Table 1 or Table 2 or the Assurances section. The LEA must revise its plan to include all required elements no later than six months after it last reviewed its plan OR by November 24, 2021, whichever date is earlier.  After that, review and revise the Plan, if necessary, with meaningful input from stakeholders every six months for the duration of the ARP ESSER grant, September 30, 2023.   The revised plan must be published on the LEA’s website.

    The LEA does not have a Back-to-School plan.  By August 2, 2021, the LEA must develop a Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan and include all of the requirements identified in the Checklist.  Email the URL where the plan is posted on the LEA’s website by August 2, 2021 to Lisa English at lenglish@sde.idaho.gov.   Review and revise the Plan, if necessary, with meaningful input from stakeholders every six months for the duration of the ARP ESSER grant, September 30, 2023.


    3.    

    The LEA developed a Back-to-School plan either before or after ARP ESSER was enacted (March 11, 2021) and that plan was developed with meaningful stakeholder feedback and public input and includes all the required information as determined by all “Yes” responses in Table 1, and Table 2, and the Assurances section of this checklist. Post the Back-to-School plan and the Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan Checklist by August 2, 2021. Review and revise the Plan, if necessary, with meaningful input from stakeholders every six months for the duration of the ARP ESSER grant, September 30, 2023.   Post the revised plan on the LEA’s website.
