Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Maria Aseguinolaza

¡Hola! This is my 13th year of teaching, and I am thrilled to be teaching Spanish 1 (for high school credit) & Exploratory Spanish 7 at Star Middle School! I will also be teaching one Lifetime Sports in Q1 & another in Q4.

Previously, I first taught for 8 years in a Dual Language school; most of that time was spent in 5th grade (teaching half of the curriculum in Spanish & half in English). Most recently, I spent 4 years teaching Spanish in a K-5 program as a special, and Spanish 1, 2, and Advanced Spanish in grades 6-8. Before teaching, I worked at Hewlett-Packard for 15 years; I worked in a variety of positions including network printing & technical support, automation support, and manufacturing of disk drives and printers. I am a native of Idaho, but as a first generation American, I learned Spanish before I learned English. I love to share my passion and knowledge of Spanish; I received my BA in Spanish and Secondary Education from Boise State University.

I am married to a teacher and coach, and we have 3 children who are all in high school or college. We have a variety of pets and animals, including three dogs, as well as sheep and a mustang named Felipe. We enjoy family time, watching our kids play sports, traveling, the outdoors, and enjoying food & culture.
