Degrees and Certifications:
Hi! My name is Susan Mansfield. I choose to teach because I want to inspire greatness in others and to make the world a better place.
I have been teaching elementary school for 25+ years. After graduating from Cal Poly, Pomona, California, I began teaching in a public school in California. I taught there for 8 years before taking time off to raise a family. Later, I began teaching in the greater Boise area and have now taught an additional 20 years. All together, I have taught all grades 1st-8th with the exception of 3rd grade. My assignment now is teaching 5th grade. Watching 5th graders learn to think deeply and apply the skills they have learned thus far is a treat. They are right on the cusp of their teen years and are beginning to see life in a more mature way, yet still are children. If you think back to your own youth, it is usually 4th or 5th grade that comes to mind first, for better or worse, but none the less impactful. This is why I love teaching this age. It is also a wonderful treat to teach in an art school because students get to learn through the arts--creative movement, drama, drawing, painting and more, right in the classroom.
I have been married for 42 years to the same wonderful man and we raised 3 children together. I now have three delightful grandchildren, which is a sweet blessing.
As of late, I have taken up biking and I enjoy crafts and sewing in my spare time, as well as traveling.
