    THIS WEEK'S INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS:
    Spelling: _et, _en (ex. pet, ten)
    Reading:  Who can you meet in a neighborhood?
        Skill: text and graphic features
                 reading stamina
    Grammar: adjectives
    Writing:  Complete sentences, spacing between letters and words, and capitalization
    Math:  Understanding the equal sign, using doubles and doubles plus one as problem solving strategies, counting on
    Science:   Begin Seasons Unit. Intro Fall months and characteristics.

    Collaboration Update - 
    • This week we finalized our curriculum for our leveled reading groups.  We also spent some of the time setting up computers for the new iStation (IRI) test.

    THIS WEEK'S INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS:
    Spelling: _op & _ot  words (ex. top, dot)   
    Reading:  Why is going to school important?
        Skill: sequence of events
                 reading stamina
    Grammar: action verbs
    Writing:  Complete sentences, spacing between letters and words, and capitalization
    Math:  Decomposing and composing within 10.  Use bar models, pictures, and number sentences to show thinking.  Solve problems with change unknown in context.
    Science:   Begin Seasons Unit. Intro Fall months and characteristics.

    • 9/20 - Back to School Night Hope to see you there!I will only be running the first two sessions.  You can come to our room at 6:00 or 6:30.

    Collaboration Update - 
    • The team created leveled reading groups.  We also discussed who would teach which groups as well as what materials would be used for instruction.  Students will attend these groups for 30 minutes a day.  In addition, all students will still be receiving instruction in the core reading curriculum/standards in their regular classrooms.

    THIS WEEK'S INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS:
    Spelling: __ig, _in, & _it  words (ex. pig, fin, hit)   
    Reading:  What happens during a storm?
        Skill:  Characters and setting
        sight words: for, what, have, he, look, too
    Writing:  Complete sentences and spacing between letters and words, handwriting, captions
       Grammar:  possessive nouns
    Math:  Decomposing and composing numbers 6-9.  Use bar models, pictures, and number sentences to show thinking.
    Social Studies:   Civics - rules at home and school

    • We reviewed grade level reading assessment data and identified students for our reading interventions.  We will begin our reading groups on September 24.  Students will be placed into groups based on reading needs.

    THIS WEEK'S INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS:
    Spelling: _at and _an  words (ex. cat and can).  There is no set list.  We will be focusing on this spelling pattern and students will be asked to apply pattern to words in test rather than memorizing a set of specific words.
    Reading:  What is a Pal?
        Skill:  main idea and supporting details
        sight words: and, be, help, you, play, with
    Writing:  Complete sentences and spacing between letters and words, handwriting
    Math:  Understanding and working with numbers to 10
    Social Studies:   Civics - rules at home and school

    • This week the team discussed common reading assessments, worked on setting our grade level proficiency goals, and discussed our common math assessment.  We are working on finding a person and a time to focus on students with intensive math needs.
