Adam Houts-PBI Study Lab

In the PBI-Study Lab classroom, students will work on social, emotional and behavioral goals. This will be individualized for each student and will utilize the principles of personal development. Students will be enhancing skills such as goal setting, dream building, self-motivation, time management, creating high self-esteem and a sense of purpose.

Students will also focus on college, career and post-secondary goals. This section will be designed to develop positive attitudes toward career choices, college choices and lifelong learning.  Preparing for the transition to “real life” is an ongoing process for students that continues all the way through high school. The activities we complete this year will include formal and informal assessments to help students identify and work toward their postsecondary goals. Information gathered through this process will be given to students, which they are encouraged to share with parents and guardians. This information will also be summarized in their annual IEP and discussed during their meeting once they are 15 years old.

The remaining time will be reserved for a traditional Study Lab class. Grade checks and teacher/student conferences regarding grades and behavior will occur daily. Study Lab will also allow students to receive teacher support and assistance in their general education classes. They will be given time to work on long or difficult assignments/projects, to study for and take quizzes, tests, etc. It should be noted that there is no guarantee students will complete their homework while in Study Lab. Therefore, it may be necessary for some assignments to be completed at home.
