Degrees and Certifications:

Bachelor in Elementary Education Masters in Literacy

Ms. Becky Sparks

Greetings!  I am so excited to be your child's first grade teacher!  First grade is a special year, full of opportunities and lots of growth, both academically and socially. I truly enjoy teaching first grade and look forward to meeting this year's class of first graders and guiding them through this year of learning and growing.

This will be my 15th year teaching.  I have been at Galileo since it opened, and before that, taught one year at Seven Oaks.  Before teaching first grade, I taught kindergarten.  We have a fantastic school year ahead of us.  A year full of learning, new adventures, and fun!  I look forward to learning about each of my students.  Teaching first grade is one of my favorite things!

I moved to Idaho in 1990, a long, long time ago.  Before Idaho, I spent time in California, Virginia, and Texas.  I have three grown children.  Zoe is 29, Geoff is 27, and Hayden is 23.  Hayden is married to Keyanna, who is like a daughter to me, and they have two children.  Presley is 7 years old and Elliot is 3 1/2.  Presley and Elliot will be getting a baby brother, in August.  Being a grandma is one of my favorite things!

I earned both my Bachelors Degree and Masters in Literacy from Boise State University.  I don't think I'll be getting any more official degrees, but I never stop learning.  Whether it's by taking a class with the district, college, online, or learning from other teachers, there is always something interesting and useful to learn.  Learning is one of my favorite things!

When I have free time I like to work in my yard, planting flowers and watching them bloom.  I also like trees. The more trees the better.  I'm not too crazy about the weeds, though.  I enjoy enjoy walking, running, yoga, and taking exercise classes at the gym, and try to do this as often as possible.  Trees and flowers are two of my favorite things!

Reading is also a favorite pastime of mine.   I mostly read on my phone, with technology being so convenient and always available, but sometimes I just want to get a book in my hands, feel the paper, and turn the pages.  I love reading aloud to my class!  There is nothing like hearing students laugh at a funny part in the story, knowing they are enjoying the story as much as I am.  One of my goals in the classroom is to get my students excited about reading.  I tell them they don't have to love it, but I do want them to feel positive about reading and discover some enjoyment in it.  Reading to my students is one of my favorite things!

Thank you for sharing your children with me this year!  I look forward to partnering with you and making your child's first grade year the best it can be!  Partnering with you is one of my favorite things!
