Ms. Becky Sparks

Greetings!  If you're reading this, I just might be your child's first grade teacher, and that makes me very excited!  This is my 14th year teaching.  I have been at Galileo since it opened, and before that, taught one year at Seven Oaks.  Before teaching first grade, I taught kindergarten.  We have a fantastic school year ahead of us.  A year full of learning, new adventures, and fun!  I look forward to learning about each of my students.  Here, I will tell you a little bit about me.

I moved to Idaho in 1990, a long, long time ago.  Before Idaho I spent time in California, Virginia, and Texas.  I have three grown children.  Zoe is 28, Geoff is 25, and Hayden is 21.  Hayden is married to Keyanna, and they have two children.  Presley is 5 years old and Elliot is 1 1/2.  This, of course, means that I am a grandma.  Being a grandma is one of my favorite things!

I earned both my Bachelors Degree and Masters in Literacy from Boise State University.  I don't think I'll be getting any more official degrees, but I never stop learning.  Whether it's by taking a class with the district, college, or online, there is always something interesting and useful to learn.

When I have free time I like to work in my yard, planting flowers and watching them bloom.  I'm also all about trees. The more trees the better.  I'm not too crazy about the weeds, though.  I enjoy, walking, running, and yoga, and try to do both as often as possible.  I definitley love visiting with my kids and grandkids!

Reading is also a favorite pastime of mine.   I mostly read on my phone, with technology being so convenient and always available, but sometimes I just want to get a book in my hands, feel the paper, and turn the pages.  Reading aloud to my first grade students is one of my absolute favorite things to do in the classroom!  There is nothing like hearing students laugh at a funny part in the story, knowing they are into the story as much as I am.  One of my goals in the classroom is to get my students excited about reading.  I tell them they don't have to love it, but I do want them to feel positive about reading and discover some enjoyment in it.

I can't wait to meet my students for the upcoming school year.  It's going to be a fabulously, marvelous year, where we will make friends, learn lots, and have fun!
