Mrs. Susan Parker

Hello! Welcome to 2nd and 3rd Grade Immersion Class!
Just a little bit about me. This is my 8th year at Gateway School of Culture and Language. I am an overseas-born Chinese who grew up in a multi-lingual and multi-cultural society where I speak multiple languages and dialects.

I love sports and played basketball competitively in college. I also swim. My favorite place to swim is the open sea. I enjoy scuba diving and snorkeling. The beauty of the underwater is heavenly!

I went to a Teacher's College on a full scholarship. After teaching for 14 years in the same school, I decided to switch my career despite outstanding achievements at school. My students test scores were at their best in the school history. There is no doubt that I love teaching but I wanted to explore life beyond the classroom. So I went to work for a petrol-chemical company based in London after receiving a Bachelor of Business in Australia and later a Masters degree in Business Administration from the UK. I was good at what I was doing and had a very successful career as an executive in the company. Later, I left the company to move to the US to join my husband. Both my husband and I took some time off to travel the world. After gaining my teaching credentials from the State of Idaho, I returned to my first love of teaching.

My belief in education is: Every child can learn and be successful
My role as a teacher is to equip the children with tools to seek knowledge. Every child is different and unique in his/her own way and with varied abilities and learning styles. My goal is to teach to the needs of each child using differentiated instructions and giving every child the opportunity to learn and to explore and at the same time, to allow them to feel successful in their learning.

With God's grace, the team effort from the teachers, parents and the community will bring success to our children to become good citizens in the world.
