Mrs. Donna Castillo
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to 7th Grade GT ELA and World Civ. I am excited for our new school year and to meet all of you. This is my 14th year at Heritage Middle School and my 28th year teaching in West Ada. Throughout my career I have taught many grades and subjects, and I find my love for education continues to grow with all the new ways to teach. Each year is a new learning experience and the opportunities to learn as a student and an adult has been exciting. Technology is a great tool that continues to get better every year. Using technology in teachng is a true passion for me and that is why I earned a technology badge for the district with roughly twenty-five other teachers.
I have high expectations for academic growth and behavior for all. I believe what happens in the classroom will affect your child’s future. Your child’s time here will be well spent. He or she may even come home exhausted from all the thinking done during the day. We, teacher and students, will make every minute count.
A Little Bit About Me:
I am a 4rd generation Idahoan that enjoys the seasons and outdoor life. My family and I enjoy riding motorcycles (dirt and stree), all water sports, hiking and anything we can do outside. My two brothers, sister, and I were raised attending Meridian schools and are now raising our families in Meridian. My husband and I have a son, Jacob, that is twenty-five years old and a daughter, Shelby, that is twenty years old. Teaching has been my life-long dream and I am grateful to be teaching in my hometown.
1. I love dogs! I have two yorkies, Cubby and Tika.
2. In my free time I love treasure hunting at yard sales.
3. I grew up in a house not even eight miles from the school.
4. Started riding motorcylces at the age of 4 years old.
5. If I could have a room full of kids and dogs it would be perfect!
6. Love to travel!
7. My heart is in education. The success of my kids academically and emotionally are my main priorities.
Student Rules and Expectations:
- Be prepared for all classes.
- Be considerate of others.
- Listen to and follow directions.
- Follow safety rules.
- Accept responsibility for all you say and do.
An excellent communication link for parents is PowerSchool Parent found at www.westada.org. PowerSchool Parent is an online site for parents to view student progress. With a log-in and password, parents can view grades, print progress reports and view attendance. This program allows you access to your child’s graded assignments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Students who struggled with turning in work often improved when parents regularly checked grades online and/or emailed teachers with concerns.
Teacher Website and Weekly Agenda:
Teachers each have a website located under www.westada.org the school website. My website is updated each week with the agenda.
Positive parent communication with teachers is a key to student success. Please contact me with any concerns about your child so that we can work as a team to help your child have a fun, successful 7th grade. In the past, communication via the internet has been very effective for parents and their children.
Throughout the year I will be communicating with you through my website, graded student work, PowerSchool, and parent-teacher conferences. Please feel free to contact me by calling Heritage Middle School between the hours of 7:45-3:20, or by emailing me.
Thank you in advance for your support,
