Mrs. Sarah Baker

Hello-my name is Sarah Baker and I am originally from a small town west of Seattle called Port Orchard, in fact my parents still live there. I have one brother who is a high school principal in Issaquah where he lives with his wife and three children. My extended family also lives in the Seattle area.

When I graduated from high school, I went to college at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. My parents, my brother, all my aunts and uncles and cousins went there for college. The main reason is because my grandpa was an engineering professor there, so my dad grew up in Pullman. When I was a kid, we would go visit my grandparents in the summer and run around on campus--it was so much fun I couldn't wait to actually live there! I graduated from there with a degree in Elementary Education and English. My last year there, I met my husband Jim, but he was at school at the University of Idaho in Moscow. The two schools are just a few miles apart, so I had friends there too. We got married right after I graduated in 1991, but Jim still had to finish his degree. We lived in Moscow for two years then moved to Port Orchard. I worked as a Title 1 teacher there for a year, but Jim got a job in Boise, so in 1995 we moved here. I taught 2nd grade in Kuna for about 4 years, then I had a son, Truman in 1998 and I decided to stay home for awhile. My daughter Emery was born in 2003, and I decided to go back to school while I was home. I took one class at a time because it was so hard going to school with little kids at home. I finally finished and I got a Masters Degree in Education Leadership, which is how to be a principal. I worked with Mrs. Bair in the office for a year before I decided to go back to work as a teacher. I have taught 4th grade at Mary McPherson, kindergarten and health. I really like the 4th grade because of all the Idaho History--I didn't know a lot about it until I taught 4th grade because I'm not from Idaho! It's been so much fun. I think 4th grade is the best grade there is!
