We made it to June!  I am so impressed with how far these kidos have come.  It has been an amazing year full of memories.  I am sad to see it end but happy with all the progress we have made.  We have just two more weeks before the end of our kindergarten year!

Our much anticipated program has also arrived!  I hope to see you all on Friday at 10:30am in the Pioneer Gym.  Your child will need to wear their tie dye t-shirt for our program.  We will be having cookie refreshments after the program.  You will be able to check your child out after the program is over.  Please see me for the sign out sheet. Can’t wait for the big performance!

The kids have loved Camp Learn A-Lot and I have been able to work on completing report card assessments.  We will continue our camping theme next week.  On Wednesday, we are asking all kids to bring a flash light (please make sure it has working batteries) and their favorite book.  We are going to have a read out in the dark with our flash lights by the campfire in our classroom.  We will also be eating a campfire favorite, S’mores!!!

June 5th is the last day for sight words to be tested.  We are working very hard to ensure that all 61 sight words are mastered.

Watch Me Read Word List and Story #30  “A Fun Job ” are due this week.  It is our last one and we have read the entire book!

We have just started our practicing for our kindergarten program and the kids are CUTE!!Please make sure you have marked your calendars for our program on June 9th at 10:30am. The program will in the Pioneer gym and will start promptly at 10:30am. The kids are so excited!

Camp Learn A-Lot will be kicking off on Tuesday, May 30th. We have had a change in the supplies need for camp. Your child will only need a rock. We no longer need to bring empty toilet paper tubes. I have found some wonderful craft tubes to use instead! Please have your child bring the rock to school by Tuesday, May 30th. We will be doing Camp Learn A-Lot for the next two weeks. I will post some fun pictures as we camp!

I hope that everyone has a fabulous Memorial Day weekend. Please keep in mind that we have no School on Monday to observe the holiday.

June 5th will be the last day that I test sight words. Please practice at home to ensure your child has mastered all 61 sights words.

We are going to end all of our parent volunteers after Memorial Day weekend. We have started program practices and with Camp Learn A-Lot we will not have time for helpers. I greatly appreciate all of the support the volunteers have given us throughout the year. THANK YOU!

Watch Me Read Me Word List and Story #29 “Can Not Quit Yet” are due this week.

We are all done with HOMEWORK for the year!!!! There will be no June Homework but we will continue to finish our Watch Me Read Books. We have only a few stories left!

We have had yet another amazing spring week here in kindergarten.  This week we did sight words as an exit ticket again and boy did we see growth. Some of us are getting very close to mastering all 61 of our kindergarten sight words.  The kids will be assessed one more time for our last report card. Our last testing will be the week of June 5th

We have added some awesome new photos to our Kinder Photo Page.  You can check out all of our fun in the sun that we had at the zoo last week and our yummy lunch pictures from this week.  Please send in any zoo pictures that you have so that I can share them with all the parents.

Our class will be having “Camp Learn A-Lot” for the last few weeks of school.  This is a fun way to review all of the important skills that we have learned in kindergarten while having a blast!  We will kick off “Camp Learn A-Lot” on the Tuesday after Memorial Day.  Your child will need to bring two empty tubes of toilet paper and a rock to paint. Please keep in mind that your child will be responsible for carrying the rock.  Don’t let them bring a HUGE rock to school.

Don’t forget that we have CRAZY HAIR DAY coming up on Friday (5/26/17).  I cannot wait to see what my class looks like!

Watch Me Read Me Word List and Story #28 “Roz the Vet” are due this week.

Sight word tip of the week: Sight Word Dominos- Make your own sight word dominos by writing two words on a 3X5 card with a line in the middle. Next, mix the cards up and match the word ends together.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the wonderful mothers out there!  We are very lucky to have such a great group of mothers!  Hope you had a restful day and that you loved your gift we made at school.

The Zoo was AMAZING!!!  We lucked out with wonderful weather and could not have had a better time!  Thank you to all of the parent chaperones that help make our trip to the zoo a success.  I will be posting pictures from our field trip on our webpage later this week.  Please send me any photos you have of the field trip so that I can add them to our webpage.  Parents that could not chaperone would love to see the fun we had.

Don’t forget the Pioneer School Carnival is this Friday night.  The carnival is guaranteed to be a blast!  I will be working spin art in our classroom and I would love to see my students and their families.  Come on out for a good time!

Mrs. Fulford will be teaching our class on Tuesday, May 16th.  I have been asked to grade math assessments at the district office for the day.

Don’t forget that we have our kindergarten lunch on Wednesday, May 17th.  The kids will be eating cheese stuffed bread sticks.  We will stick to our regular dismissal time for Wednesdays and the kids will not need to bring money.  The school will cover the cost of lunch.

We are getting really excited for our Kindergarten Program! The kids are doing an awesome job learning their songs.  The Kindergarten Program is a great summation of our adventures here in kindergarten.  The program will take the place of a “graduation”.  Save the date June 9th at 10:30am in Pioneer’s gym.

Watch Me Read Me Word List and Story #27 “Wes Can Help” are due this week.

Sight word tip of the week: Sight Word Jump and Grab- Write sight words on scrap paper, paper plates, coffee filters, ect… and hang them from a door frame with yarn and tape.  Your child will jump and grab the sight word and read it.

  • Time for the Zoo!

I personally had a rough start to the month of May!  As you may have heard, my family and I caught a nasty stomach bug and I was unable to teach for the first two days of the week.  The class had different substitutes during my absence and the kids did great.  I appreciate everyone’s flexible attitude when these tough situations come about.

A BIG thank you to all of the parents and students that sent in tokens of appreciation for Teacher Appreciation Week.  You sure know how to make a teacher feel loved!

It’s here! It’s here! It’s finally here!  The Zoo Field Trip is next week!  Just when I though the kindergarteners could wait no longer! Below you will find some helpful tips to make our trip a successful one:

    • Wear your Tie Dye T-shirt!
    • Please put sunscreen on your child before they leave for school if the weather requires.
    • Tennis shoes are best for kids…we will be doing lots of walking!
    • Each child will need a sack lunch with a drink. Please keep everything disposable!  All lunches should be in paper/plastic bags.  It is very difficult to ensure that all lunch boxes and other lunch items make it back to school thus items should be disposable.
    • Please make sure your child is at school at 9:05am on Thursday for our field trip.
    • Please let me know how your child will get home. We will dismiss at 3:55pm and I will assume parent pick up of every child unless I am otherwise notified. Please let me know if you are planning on having your child picked up by daycare that day.  Please remember that the buses that run at 3:55pm are not the same busses that run at our half day release time.

I have added you to the volunteer list if you indicated that you would like to chaperone our trip to the zoo.  I will be sending home a parent information packet for you to look over before our field trip.  Please plan on meeting in our classroom at 9:05am on Thursday, May 11th for a very important meeting.  You will meet the kids in your group, meet other parent chaperones, learn rules, get the schedule for the day, organize lunches, and usher kids to the restroom. Thank you for volunteering your time for this fun experience!

Watch Me Read Me Word List and Story #26 “Bug and Cat” are due next week.  If your child is normally tested on Thursdays, please have them ready to be tested on their Watch Me Read Story by Wednesday. Our time will be limited on Thursday due to our field trip to the zoo and I would like to get the stories signed off before we go.

Sight word tip of the week: Sight Word Slapper- Write sight words on post it notes and place on table or floor.  Child holds fly swatter (or they could use their hand) and quickly slaps the sight words as the adult calls them out.

The much anticipated field trip permission slip is going home on Friday!!! The kids are super excited!  Please complete the permission slip and return it to school. Please indicate if you would like to chaperone our field trip to the zoo.  Please keep in mind that we cannot accommodate siblings on this field trip.

May will be our last month for homework!  We will not have a homework packet during the month of June but we will continue our Watch Me Read Stories.

Watch Me Read Me Word List and Story #25 “Play it, Kid” are due next week.

We are continuing to work with both 2D and 3D shapes in math.  Please encourage your child to find all of the 2D and 3D shapes they can find in the world around them!  Shapes are everywhere! We are working on identifying short and long vowel sounds in words.  We are also putting focus on sentence structure and reading text for information.

Don’t forget to keep chugging on those sight words!!!  We need all 61 mastered by the end of the school year and that is only seven weeks away! Yikes! Check out our sight word tip of the week for practice ideas.

Keep in mind that your child has access to iReads at home and are welcome to use for extra reading practice.  Some kids are getting excited about reaching new levels and getting new “teachers”.  We try to get 20 minutes of iReads done 4 days a week but at home usage will help fuel reading success.

Sight word tip of the week: Magic Words- Write the sight word on a white piece of paper with a white color crayon.  Have you child water color paint over the paper to reveal the sight word.  The word appears like magic with the water color paints!

  • April Showers!

I can hardly believe that we are approaching our last week in April! The kids have finished their Spring IRI and I will let you know that results as soon as I get them. We are really hitting our 61 sight words hard. Our latest exit ticket has outlined which word our kids have mastered and which ones we could use a little extra help on. I am very proud of how hard the kids have worked! We have dived in to 2D and 3D shapes this trimester and the kindergartens are having fun learning about them. We have even found a cool song to sing to help us learn them!

We have a Mix and Match Spirit Day coming on Friday, April 28th. I cannot wait to see the crazy mixes that our class comes up with!

May is shaping up to be a very busy month for us here in kindergarten. We have our super exciting field trip with a full day of school and then followed by a day off from school. Then we also have a practice lunch here at school on May 17th. The practice lunch gives the kids an opportunity to experience what the lunchroom will be like next year. They learn all the rules and procedures while having a fun lunch. The kitchen will be serving cheese stuffed bread sticks. This is a student experience and we do not encourage parents to join us. The goal is to get the kids a good independent practice of what lunch will be like next year. School will still dismiss at the same time, the kids will just be full of yummy lunch.

SAVE THE DATE!!! I just wanted to give everyone heads up that our Kindergarten program will be on Friday, June 9th. More info will come as we get closer to the date but I wanted everyone to pencil it in. It is a must see event! The program will be here at the Pioneer Gym at 10:00am.

Word List and Story #24 “Kid Hid” are due next week.

Sight word tip of the week: Sight word hunt: Place sight words hidden throughout the house and your child may shoot them with their Nerf Gun after they read them. You could also use a flashlight if you wish.

The kids are officially thrilled now that they have gotten wind that we are going to go on a field trip to the zoo in May. Please keep in mind that I will be sending home more information as the trip comes closer. I want parents to start making arrangements for our split schedule of having a full day of School from 9:05am to 3:55pm on Thursday, May 11th and No School Friday, May 12th for morning kindergarten only. Volunteer signups and permission slips are to come soon.

We are LOVING our new Exit Tickets for assessments. I really feel like it is an effective way for parents to know immediately how your child is doing in a specific area. Please keep in mind that I also put the Exit Ticket grades into power school. The Exit Tickets will be taking the place of the Third Trimester Progress Report.

Our Spring IRI will be on Wednesday, April 19th. Please use the practice pages send home for tack break to help make sure your child is ready for their final IRI. They will need to identify 30 letter sounds in one minute to be on grade level.

I hope everyone has a peaceful and wonderful Easter weekend!

Word List and Story #23 ”Ben and Jen” are due next week.

It is hard to believe that we are already in our third trimester!  The kids are amazing me with their reading!  I am truly wowed!  Keep up the great work on the Watch Me Read Books.  The kids have really LOVED their new Sight Word Sticker Books!  We were looking for a fun way to reward kids for mastering their sight words.  The Sight Word Sticker Book has really motivated our kids to get all 61 words done before the end of the school year!

Great News!!!  We get to go to a field trip to the Zoo in May!  Kindergarten does a special field trip schedule due to our transportation system.  We will go to the Zoo on Thursday, May 11th.  We will attended school that day from 9:05am to 3:55pm.  We will spend a large part of the day at the Zoo and the remainder of the afternoon in the classroom doing Zoo related activities.  We do get to eat lunch in the Zoo too! The next day, Friday, May 12th, we will not attend school so that the afternoon kindergarten session can go to their field trip. There will be lots more information about volunteering and other important details at a later date.

Word List and Story #22 ”Fix It!” are due the week we return from break.

We have another Scholastic Book Order open for our class.  Please order online if you wish to purchase books to add to your child’s library.  Happy Reading!

Sight word tip of the week: Park the toy car in the right spot by reading your sight words.

Track break is here! I can hardly believe it myself! The kids have worked hard and are very excited for our break. Below you will find some tips to keep your child’s mind active and learning during track break.

    • IRI Practice- Please take some time to help your child with their letter naming and letter sound fluency. We will take our Spring IRI in April after track break. Keep in mind that the practices should only take one minute each time and will help your child succeed! Your child will also get a chance to go the treasure box when they return the packet.
    • Sight Words- I have sent home the entire kindergarten sight word list. Oh boy! It seems like a lot of words but I know we are up for the challenge. It would be nice to get a head start on the new words. Keep in mind that the entire list will be tested at the end of the school year.
    • iReads- Don’t forget that you child can log in and work at home. This program is very worth while! It challenges your child at their pace and helps to review concepts they struggle with. Please consider letting your child do iReads over track break.
    • Review Watch Me Read stories. This is a great chance to preview the upcoming stories and review past stories. Don’t forget that story # 21 “My Dog, Tom” is due when we return from break.
    • Practice sentence writing. We are going to dive into sentence writing when we return from break. Please encourage your child to do some writing on their own. It is fun to see what they are thinking!
    • Don’t forget to Read, Read, and Read with your child. We have our last Pizza Hut Book It calendar this month plus the Roaring Reader. Make sure your child is rewarded for their reading. I know that my daughter is working hard to get her Roaring Reader!
    • Play family games! Playing games with your family is a great way to enrich your child’s vocabulary and many games encourage math skills. So, pull out the board games!

Word List and Story #21 ”My Dog, Tom” are due the week we return from break.

Sight word tip of the week: Sight word hopscotch. Use sidewalk chalk to create the outline of hopscotch and write the sight words in the box. Next, kids can play hopscotch and practice their sight words.

Learn through play with Sight Word Hopscotch. Take learning outdoors - get physical, work on gross motor skills, have fun and learn along the way!:
