Dear Families,

Welcome to third grade at Pioneer School of the Arts! I am so excited to meet you and your child. We are going to have a wonderful year of getting to know each other, growing and learning together. To get third grade off to a positive start, I would like to share with you a little about myself as well as explain some of my expectations and plans for the year.

I have been teaching for over 18 years. I have had the wonderful privilege of being at Pioneer for 15 of those years. I feel very blessed to be a part of such a great staff and community of students and parents. I have been married for 36 years. My husband is in a vocal quartet called Liberty that travels all over the world. Our third-grade students will have the opportunity to sing with his quartet during our music program in December. I have three children. My son Jeremiah is 31, and works at Alevita and lives here in the Treasure Valley. My daughter Jenna is 28 and works for Wyakin (a non-profit organization for Veterans) and lives in Boise. My youngest daughter Julianne is 23 and lives in Columbus Ohio with her husband and my first grandchild, Franny. I love teaching; it has been my dream to teach since I was in 3rd grade. I also enjoy taking walks, reading, and drinking Starbuck’s coffee.

It is my desire to provide a positive and nurturing learning environment in which your child feels confident and grows academically, socially, and develops responsibility. It is important to me that all students feel successful and establish a real love for learning. The expectations I have for your child will help our classroom become a community built around kindness and respect. My expectations are that each student will:

Be a responsible and respectful member of our class

Always strive to do her/his best

Be truthful

Come excited to learn

In third grade, the students will get the chance to experience a lot of fun projects. They will build a community, perform in a musical program, make an invention, and many other exciting things.

This will be a fun-filled year in which we will create some wonderful memories. I will be communicating with you via email and weekly newsletters to inform you of what we are doing in the classroom. This will give you the opportunity to be a part of your child’s third grade experience. If you would like to volunteer in the classroom, you are always welcomed with open arms.

I am looking forward to meeting you on Wednesday, August 7th at “Meet the Teacher” from 4:30 to 5:30p.m. In room S-8. You may bring your supplies that evening. Don’t forget on Thursday, August 8th we will have a full day of school.

  Looking forward to seeing you!

  Sincerely,

   Mrs. Tammy Mitchell

If you have any questions or concerns email me at Mitchell.tammy@westada.org. You can find lots of valuable information like supply lists, newsletters, and calendars at www. westada.org/Pioneer.

In effort to save you time and money, students will NOT NEED batteries, hand sanitizer, or 1 inch 3 ring binders. Although, Clorox wipes are very popular in 3rd grade. Please make sure all supplies are labeled with your child's name. General classroom pencils are shared as a community, so yellow is preferred. - Thanks ALL!
