    Happy Friday!

First semester grades are updated and ready for you to review in PowerSchool.  Please keep in mind that with standard based grading, students are working to be proficient by the end of the school year.

Next week is our 2nd Parent Math Night.  It will focus on addition and subtraction strategies.  We will be holding the math night on Thursday, January 24th at 6pm in the library.  A reminder was sent home today in Friday folders.  There is also a new math game in Friday folders.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

It has been a great week back from the holiday break.  We have one more week before the end of the first semester.  Grades can always be viewed in PowerSchool and are updated on a weekly basis.  Semester grades can be viewed starting January 18th and there is information in today’s newsletter on how to see them.

We are wrapping up our habitat unit and will change hats back to social studies next week to focus on global perspectives.  We will be continuing with addition and subtraction for several weeks.  During our fall parent math night, we told parents we would be having a 2nd parent math night for addition and subtraction strategies in January.  We would like your feedback on a date and time for the January parent math night.  Please look for the link in your email to answer two short questions.  We will use this information at the beginning of next week to set the math night for either Wednesday, January 23rd or Thursday, January 24th.

Friday folders have a new parent math letter that shows the addition strategies we have been working through with students.  On the back is a new math game to play at home.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

It is hard to believe that there is only one more week of school until Christmas Break.  Next week 2nd grade will be focusing more on math, science, and writing.  We will not have reading groups and homework will not be coming home today.  Students will continue with adding and subtracting in Module 4.  We are also going to have our 3rd science experiment of the year, students will be making aluminum foil boats and analyzing what they do in the water.  We will round out the week with a persuasive letter to Santa!

Next week is Holiday Spirit Week!  Our dress up themes are below, and we encourage students to join staff in dressing up as they can.

    • Monday – Baby It’s Cold Outside – Favorite winter scarf and holiday socks
    • Tuesday – Jingle Bells – Holiday bling
    • Wednesday – Candy Cane Day – Red and white
    • Thursday – Merry Flannel Christmas – Comfy flannel
    • Friday – Deck the Halls – Holiday sweater, reindeer antlers, Santa hat

In addition to the Holiday Spirit Week, SSE will be having our school-wide singalong on Friday, December 21st from 1:30 to 2:30.  Students will have recess right after till 2:45 when Christmas parties will start in classrooms.  Parents are encouraged to join us at both events.  Our Christmas party will include food, gingerbread craft (using paper bags), and the making of reindeer food.  I would love to have you join us.  Please see the emailed sign up if you would like to contribute to our party.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

Friday folders are bursting with student artifacts, a new math game, and other school information.  A few folders did not make their way home today as students were leaving.  These folders will come home on Monday.  Included in each folder is a new login sheet with an Epic! login.  This is an online book website for students to read books.

Students used Seesaw again this week to draw a desert habitat.  They will continue to use it weekly throughout our habitat unit.  Many students were able to record themselves talking about the habitat.  I love listening to them!

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Rainy Friday!

Today is our November Stallion Pride Assembly.  Students voted on the student who displays courage in our classroom.  This student will be revealed at the assembly later today!

All students have a new artifact on SeeSaw.  Students drew their favorite ocean animal this week and recorded themselves talking about their animal.  They are fun to view because the animal’s mouth moves as your child is talking.

We finished up our place value module today with the last assessment.  We are starting addition and subtraction on Monday with a pretest.  Students who are not proficient in place value will continue to review place value instruction in their PON (point of need) groups.  Additional assessments will continue to be given as needed.  Please remember students are working to be proficient by the end of the school year.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through November.  Next week is Thanksgiving Break.  In keeping with having a break, Mrs. Przybylski and I chose not to send homework home over the break.  We would encourage you to have your child read aloud and ask questions regarding the reading.  Homework will come home Monday, November 26th and be due back on Friday, November 30th.

We will be finishing our place value unit on November 30th and starting the next two addition and subtraction units.  Place value will continue to be a focus for students who are not quite proficient by using our Point of Need groups.

We started habitats this week and will continue for the next several weeks.  Most students are highly animated during our discussions, and we all continue to learn new information throughout the units by students sharing what they already know.

Be looking for a new ocean habitat artifact to be debuting on Seesaw by your very own student the week of November 26th!  I love this activity and how excited students become to showcase an ocean animal of his or her choice.

    Have a great Thanksgiving Break.

    Happy Friday!

We had an amazing Veteran’s Day Assembly this morning.  It was so exciting to see so many parents and families join us for our annual assembly.  The choir and students did an amazing job with the songs.

Today students completed their second science experiment.  Students made fake snow and then compared it to real snow.  Each child put their experiment in a baggie and it is coming home in backpacks.  It was a lot of fun and we had a great conversation about comparing real to fake snow along with solids versus liquids.

Students’ first evidence piece for writing is coming home in Friday folders today.  I have entered this assignment in PowerSchool with a note about how it was graded and the comments for strategic and basic.  Students will be finishing up a 2nd evidence piece next week.

It’s hard to believe that we only have a week of school before Thanksgiving Break.  Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

Friday folders are coming home full of student work.  Please look through your child's folder and have your child return one activity to display on our Student Display Board.

I have uploaded our Parent Math Night - Place Value PDF to the website under Class Information.  I also included the Back to School file that was not loading after Back to School Night.  I included the Pledge of Allegiance video of our class on Seesaw that was used on WOW 104.3 on October 1st.

Next week is parent teacher conferences.  I have had all conferences confirmed, thank you!  Since it is a short week for students, we will not be sending home homework.  We always encourage reading at home during this time.

A book order is coming home today.  Our online code is L4VP4.  I will submit the order next Thursday, October 25th.  You can order online or send in a check if you would like to order anything.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

It has been a busy week in 2nd grade!  We have wrapped up our 1st measurement unit and the meaning of several words in the Pledge of Allegiance (pledge, allegiance, republic, nation, indivisible, liberty, and justice),

Friday folders are full of student work and information for parents.  Parent teacher conference forms are in folders.  Please confirm that your child’s day and time will work for you, if not please let me know what a better day and time would be.  The bottom part of the form needs to be filled out and returned by Wednesday, October 17th.  There is also information from the PTO included.

Students tried out Seesaw this week by adding an American symbol or celebration.  If you have not linked to your child’s Seesaw account, please look for today's email with the link.  I will be adding the recording of the Pledge of Allegiance that WOW Country 104.3 aired on Monday, October 1st this weekend.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

With next week being a short week, there will not be any homework sent home.  Students are always encouraged to read even when homework is not sent home.

Rick and Carly from 104.3 came into SSE this week and recorded several classrooms reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.  Our class will be highlighted on their show on Monday.  Please see your child’s Friday folder for the flyer with the time.  I have also added a short snipet of the students at the end of the recitation on Seesaw.  If you do not hear the Pledge on Monday, I have recorded it myself and will add to Seesaw for next week.  If you have not connected to your child’s Seesaw account (online digital portfolio), you can use the link below.  I will add different items throughout the year, and students will be adding artifacts/activities they create/complete in class.

Thank you to the families who have been going through Friday folders and having students return an artifact for the Student Display Board.  Our Display Board is looking very nice right now!

Today is also our first Stallion Pride Assembly.  Our character trait for the month was Responsibility.  One student from each classroom will be highlighted and chosen to represent their class each month for the current character trait.  In our classroom, students are the ones who vote and then the student is revealed at the assembly.  I do contact parents in advance so they have the opportunity to attend the assembly.

    Have a great weekend!
