    Happy Friday!

We started graphing in math this week and many of the students have been enjoying it along with asking many comparative questions.  Today we took our first quiz and will be working with money next week.

Friday folders are brimming with student artifacts.  If your child would like to pick one to change out their tile on our Student Display Board, then please return one to me on Monday in the Friday folder.

Our school carnival is fast approaching.  Please see the flyer in your child’s Friday folder.  I have also added a few pictures from our field trip to Seesaw.  We had a lot of fun!  Students are excited for our next one in May.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

I wanted to let you know that I have a few days that are coming up that I will not be in the classroom. They will be mainly half-days that I am not in the classroom. Our school leadership team is in the process of our Highly Reliable Schools Certification this month.  Also, my father-in-law continues to improve from our family emergency in March; however, there are follow up appointments that I need to take him to.  If you have any questions, I am always available by email.

Our field trip next week is on Tuesday, April 16th.  We will be eating an early lunch before leaving for the Watershed.  You are welcome to send in a snack for when we return for your child.  Mrs. Przybylski and I will be letting the students have a short recess and snack before continuing with the school day.

We finished up our large math computation unit today and will start data representation next week.  Students who are not proficient in computation will continue to receive additional support in their intervention group.

Our last field trip will be on Thursday, May 16th to the Idaho Botanical Gardens.  We will be leaving around 10:20 and returning around 2.  There is a park near the Botanical Gardens that we will be eating our lunch at.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

Thank you for returning the field trip permission slips so quickly.  I have all permission slips and we are set for our field trip on Tuesday, April 16th.  Please see the newsletter for more information on the field trip and volunteers.

We will have a second field trip in May to the Idaho Botanical Gardens.  More information will come home at the beginning of May for this field trip.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Thursday!

I cannot believe that it is Spring Break already.  Students worked and played hard today to finish up assessments before the break.  We finished our weighing and balancing unit and will be heading into economics after the break.  We are also half-way through our last math computation module.

On April 16th, we will be having a field trip to the Boise Watershed.  Like the newsletter mentions, field trip permission slips are coming home today. Please see the attached picture for what information needs to be filled out. This is the same form that is used for all field trips which is why you see some information for overnight stays. Please fill out all the information in the bottom section including if the lunch will be provided by parents or students. This is the information I will use for ordering sack lunches from the cafeteria for that day. More information on parent volunteers and trip details will be coming home the week after spring break.

Mrs. Przybylski and I chose to not send homework home over the break.  We will send home the weekly homework packet on Monday, April 1st.

    Have a great Spring Break!

    Happy Friday!

It was great to be back in the classroom today with the kiddos.  I loved all the hugs and “I missed you.”  I was able to grade everything I took home with me this week when I was sick.  Most of these papers should be coming home in Friday folders today.  I have not been able to enter the grades in PowerSchool, but I will by the end of the weekend.

If you would like your child to receive dental sealants from the dental clinic that will be at SSE, forms need to be returned by March 19th.  Also, picture forms are in Friday folders.  Pictures will be taken on Wednesday, March 20th.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

We finished up our social studies unit on geography this week and started our matter unit in science.  This unit is very hands on, and students usually enjoy all the different activities.  Next week students will use two different types of balances, and one of the balances students will construct out of the materials provided.

Next week is our Stallion Pride Assembly.  As a reminder, I have the class vote on who they believe exemplified the character trait of the month.  This month our character trait is loyalty.  I do not tell the students who is chosen, I like to have them surprised at the assembly.  If your child is chosen by the class, I will reach out to you to invite you to the assembly.

We also have our Book Fair going on next week.  Students will be able to walk through and look at the books they like during their library class on Monday.  Students will create a wish list and be able to bring it home.  With our book fair, we will be having a family Read Night on Thursday, March 14th from 5 to 7.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

There are some important papers in your child’s Friday folder that should be coming home today.  One is for the free dental sealant clinic offered at Silver Sage.  In order to have your child participate, you will need to fill out and return the paper.  There is also a planning sheet for the 2019-2020 school year.  This document helps the office plan for students next year.  Even if you are unsure of your plans, please fill out and return to Silver Sage.  Last, our first parent letter and game for Module 5 is included.

Our Student Display Board is in desperate need of new artifacts!  Please have your child choose one item to return on Monday that I add to his or her tile.

Many students are not returning their homework packets.  Reading at home each night greatly impacts your child’s fluency and comprehension at home.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

It has not been a typical week in 2nd grade!  This week, Mrs. Vennell our resource room teacher, gave a presentation to both 2nd grade classes on when she lived in Africa for several years with her family.  Students were able to see a slideshow, touch and look at African artifacts, and taste three ethnic foods from Africa.  In addition, students also tasted food from Germany and Mexico this week in order to compare ethnic foods.  We had a great time and Mrs. Vennell’s presentation is always a highlight of each 2nd grade year.

Today is our Stallion Pride Assembly.  Our character trait this month was generosity, and students voted on who they believed displayed generosity in our classroom.  This student will be announced at the assembly.  As always, if your child is our Monthly Super Stallion, I will contact you in advance so that you can join us.

Tonight is our school dance.  I hope to see you there!  If you purchased food tickets in advance, they will be coming home in Friday folders today.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

Today is our Valentine’s Party!  Students will be passing out their Valentines, having snacks, and I have a heart tangram game for them to play.  Valentine bags will be coming home in backpacks along with Friday folders.  I will be taking a few pictures to share on Seesaw this weekend.

Students also had a special lunch today with tablecloths, decorations, and a small treat.  Staff was on hand to promote kindness and manners in the lunchroom.  I also took a few of these pictures that I will be posting on Seesaw this weekend.

Since next week is only a four-day school week, we will not be reading a new story or have new spelling words.  Reading homework will be coming home tonight, but not the spelling portion.

    Have a great weekend!

    Happy Friday!

Next week is our Valentine’s Day Party.  It will be on Friday, February 15th from 2:50 to 3:45.  Parents are invited to attend if you would like.  Students can exchange cards with each other during the party.  Exchanging Valentine cards is voluntary, but I do ask that if students participate that they have a card for each student.  I have attached and sent home a hard copy in Friday folders of student names for Valentine’s if you choose to participate.  The link to our Valentine's Party sign will be sent home today via email.

Our Student Display Board is in desperate need of updating!  Many of the student artifacts on display are from the first week of school.  Please go through your child’s Friday Folder with them and choose one artifact to return on Monday.

    Have a great weekend!
