Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Cindy Compton
I was born in Japan, but grew up all over because my dad was in the Navy. I was always by the ocean growing up, so that's where I feel the most at home. My dad retired early so we moved to western Montana when I was in high school. I have been married 38 years and have two grown children, Melissa and Jonathan. Jonathan and his wife Laci have two children ages 4 and 2, and its fun when we get to see them, but its not often enough since they live in Denver, Colorado.
I've been teaching over 25 years, 20 years in public schools and five years running my own tutoring business. I have my Bachelor of Science in Education from University of Nebraska. In 2005, I earned my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Reading Specialist certification K-12. I also ran a tutoring business in Sandpoint, Idaho for five years emphasizing Reading and Math for grades K-12. After years of classroom teaching, it was fun to meet with kids one on one, but I missed the classroom. I taught in the Nampa School District for a number of years and last year joined West Ada School District. This year I am teaching third grade and its exciting to be a part of their enthusiasm for learning and be the first teacher to teach them cursive and multiplication.
Some of my hobbies include writing, bluegrass music, crocheting and gardening. My all time favorite activity is agate hunting on the Oregon Coast. I have written and published a book called Run the Rivers with Lewis and Clark. I love exercising and outdoor activities like hiking, golfing and camping. Since I love writing and grew up with an artist mother, I integrate both of those subjects into our studies. Students are always eager to work with all kinds of art techniques to enhance their writing, science or history projects. On some afternoons if you walk into my classroom, we might all be singing some patriot songs or silly songs.
