Mrs. Karen Rice
Dear Students and Families,
Please allow me to welcome you to our classroom. My name is Karen Rice and I will be your new Mathematics teacher. As it is the beginning of the year, I’d like you to better know me, and why I am so excited about this opportunity.
This is my fourth year at MHS and I'm very excited for this year!
I received my Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from Oregon State in Mathematics while playing basketball for OSU. From there, I was an academic advisor at Kansas State and then for the Boise State, Athletic Departments. In 2013, I earned my second Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Boise State. For the past three years, I have been a part of the Idaho Leads Project Team at Boise State.
Idaho Leads gave me the opportunity to work with over 1,000 educators across Idaho where I worked with committed educators, parents, students and leaders throughout our state. Participating with our schools in professional learning, being in classrooms, promoting best practices, and realizing that our great students deserve the very best education we can offer has deepened my understanding of all we can accomplish together. I am excited to apply everything I have learned throughout the past ten years to the classroom.
It is a very exciting time to be using new, more rigorous standards, and technology in classrooms. I look forward to applying 21st century skills, such as collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and real world problem solving to the math curriculum.
In terms of grading, our focus will be learning the concepts and skills of high school math, and we will use Common Core State Standards and the Math Vision project curriculum in the grading process. In our classroom, all students will understand the instructional targets and where they are in relation to having achieved those targets.
I welcome and encourage open communication! Please don’t hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org should you have any questions or concerns relating to your child or our class. I am looking forward to working with your child and you throughout the school year.
