A Note To My 2020/21 Families

Hello Star Family! I am so fortunate to be a part of this community teaching 5th grade. I have been teaching 5th grade at Star Elementary since 2015 and I absolutely continue to love it every year.  This year will be like no other year we've ever encountered. In my class, we strive for a positive outlook and growth mindset - with these we can achieve anything, especailly if it's hard. With positive conversations at home and strong communication, together we can make this the best year ever.

A Bit About Me (I love purple)

I was born in Southern California and raised in Boise where I attended Bishop Kelly High School and Boise State University, graduating in 2008. After college, I taught kindergarten at Chaparral in Meridian. After my first year of teaching, I sought out an adventure and moved to Austin, TX where I worked in software start-up companies doing business development and project management. Eventually I was ready to move back home and marry my high school sweetheart. Upon my return, I started working for PCS Edventures Lab, which was an after-school STEM learning center. This was such an amazing experience where I wrote all kinds of STEM curriculum for the labs and for labs in Saudi Arabia, ran the operations, training of instructors, website development and so much more for the labs in Boise and Eagle. PCS is still around, however it is now under new ownership and is called Geeko Labs. Because of these amazing experiences I've had, I try to implement a lot of technology, coding, video production, and more STEM into my classroom.

My husband, David, and I now have two beautiful daughters, Eden Ray (Edie) and Elliette Vaune (El or Ellie). In addition to people, our family has a black lab mix, Pico, and a cat named Bonkers Basel who is a bit... uh... bonkers. We live in Eagle, ID and spend a lot of our summers in McCall. We love to ride our bikes, hike, swim, exercise, boating, and of course spend time with my family (mostly hibernating in the winter, however). I bring a lot of movement into the classroom as well - active body, active mind.

Teaching 10 and 11 year olds, I hope to always share my passion for technology and learning. Discovering new things is the most exciting thing to me and I love constantly learning new things with my students. We will learn and discuss the idea of having a growth mindset where it is ok to fail, as long as it helps us to learn. Here's to a fabulous year!
