Mrs. Caitlin R. Basel

Hello Star Family! I am so fortunate to be a part of this community teaching 5th grade. I have been teaching 5th grade at Star Elementary since 2015 and I absolutely continue to love it every year.

I was born in Southern California and raised in Boise where I attended Bishop Kelly High School and Boise State University, graduating in 2008. After college, I taught kindergarten at Chaparral in Meridian. After my first year of teaching, I moved to Austin, TX where I worked in software start-up companies doing business development and project management. I attribute this to my love of technology and coding - we will be learning some code in the classroom this year. In 2013 I moved back to Boise to get married to my high school sweetheart. We now have two beautiful daughters, Eden Ray (Edie) and Elliette Vaune (El or Ellie). Before coming to Star Elementary, I was Director of Operations at PCS EdventuresLabs in Boise and Eagle, which is a STEM learning center and tons of fun (now Geekos)!

In addition to people, our family has a black lab mix, Pico, and a cat named Bonkers Basel who is a bit... uh... bonkers. We live in Eagle, ID and love to ride our bikes to restaurants like Ahi Sushi and Rice. Staying active is very important to me - in my free time you can usually find me hiking, working out, surfing, wakeboarding, or simply spending time with my family (mostly hibernating in the winter, however). I bring a lot of movement into the classroom as well - active body, active mind.

Teaching 10 and 11 year olds, I hope to always share my passion for technology and learning. Discovering new things is the most exciting thing to me and I love constantly learning new things with my students. We will learn and discuss the idea of having a growth mindset where it is ok to fail, as long as it helps us to learn. Here's to a fabulous year!
