Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Steven Rohlmeier
My name is Steven Rohlmeier. I am your child's Physical Education and Health teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. I would like to describe the program at Joplin Elementary and what your child can expect to learn over the next few years.
First off, I would like to give you a little information about myself and my experience as a Physical Education/Health teacher. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. While going through the program, my emphasis was in teaching Physical Education. During my time at Cal Poly I played a lot of different Intramural sports, but my main sport was playing baseball for the Cal Poly Mustangs with a scholarship. The educational program at Cal Poly was outstanding. The courses included English, history, math, science and philosophy. Some of the core classes included, Anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, Dance, child development and motor skill development. Lastly, scientific aspects of physical fitness and sport, as well as effective teaching techniques and progressions for a variety of lifetime sports and fitness activities concluded the course development.
As a result, I will be starting my eighteenth year teaching Physical Education and Health. I taught for fifteen years in San Diego, California at the middle school level. There I developed Physical Education programs, while being the head of our department. With my experience and dedication to Physical Education and Health, I am looking forward to teaching your kiddos at Joplin Elementary School.
Here at Joplin, I want to help develop the physical competence that lead to confidence and participation in physical activity for a lifetime. My goal is to help children find a variety of ways to enjoy being physically active and healthy. This will allow them to benefit socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically.
I reside in Meridian with my beautiful wife Amy, and our two sons, Cooper-15 and Cole-13.
