Mrs. Cindee Hersey

There are many things that keep me busy when I'm not working with students! Spending time with family is something that I enjoy. Whether we are going on bike rides, watching hot air balloons take to the sky or just sitting and visiting, my family is very important to me.

At home, my five hens, Dave, Bob, Kevin, Jerry, and Stuart keep me busy and entertained.  They are all named after Minions and have five very different personalities.   Stuart is the smallest but she talks the most.  She always runs to greet whoever goes into the yard.

Reading middle-grade books is one of my most favorite things to do.  I enjoy the style of the writing and the way the books give you opportunities to discover things about yourself or connect with characters that are similar to the students I see every day in the library.

My love for teaching came after spending time in my daughters' classrooms as a parent volunteer. I fell in love with the "magic" that happens in the classroom when students are learning. I decided to put myself through school and earned my Bachelor degree in Liberal Studies from California State University Channel Islands. I taught 4th, and 5th grades in California for 4 years before moving to Texas. In Texas, I taught 5th grade for two years before moving down to 3rd grade. An opportunity opened up to become the school Library Media Specialist so I went back to school and earned a Masters in Library Science from Texas Woman's University while working as the librarian for nearly 800 students!

In 2016, our family moved to Boise, Idaho to be closer to the nearly 40 Herseys here, and I taught 5th grade for three years at Andrus Elementary. In the summer of 2018, I was honored to be selected as the new librarian at Lowell Scott Middle School!

I'm proud to call myself a Charger!
