Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor of Science: Mathematics-Secondary Education, Boise State University, 2015
Hello! I began teaching at MHS during the 2015-2016 school year. This year I am teaching Math 1.
Prior to becoming a teacher I spent over 11 years working in the log and timber construction industry. During that career I regularly used math to solve countless problems while building log homes, staircases, trusses, and other log and timber specialty items. I plan on integrating engaging, real-world problems into my lessons as often as possible.
When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with my family. My wife and I have two boys and one girl, ages 15, 13 and 9 respectively. I try to spend any spare time I have outdoors; I love to run, ride my mountain bike, camp, ski, snowboard, and skateboard. This year I am very happy to be a part of the MHS Ski and Snowboard Club!
My personal philosophy regarding teaching mathematics is this: I believe that the skills one acquires while becoming a successful math student can empower a person to become successful in real life. I want my students to be able to make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. I want them to be able to construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. In short, I want them to be able to implement Common Core's Eight Mathematical Practices both within an academic environment and in their daily lives. Adhering to these procedures will not only help students to become proficient at math, but will enable them to become more effective problem solvers in any area of life.
I am sincerely looking forward to working with you and your student this year. It's a great year to be a Warrior!
