Hello to all my Hillsdale parents and students!
I am so happy to be teaching music at Hillsdale this year! I truly believe this is the most rewarding and funnest job a person could ever have! It is an honor and a privilege to teach the joy of music to your children.
I grew up in Caldwell, ID where my dad was the choir director at the College of Idaho (Dr. G), and my mom taught elementary general music to every student in Caldwell for over 35 years! Of my 4 other siblings, 3 of them also went into teaching music and the 4th plays music professionally. I guess you can say that music and teaching runs in my blood, and I am so thankful for the creative musical environment I grew up in!
I attended the College of Idaho for 2 years, but then finished my Bachelor of Music at the U. of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA, in both choral and instrumental music, grades K-12. I then taught 3 years of beginning strings, Jr. H. and H.S. orchestra in Tacoma. After that time I attended Northern Arizona University and became a certified teacher of books 1 - 5 of the Suzuki Violin Method.
I returned to Boise and have taught private Suzuki violin and viola to children of all ages for the past 30 years! This really was where I truly learned my love and passion for teaching and working with young kids!
While in Boise, I returned to school and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Boise State U. I worked in the high tech industry as a technician and engineer for 27 years. It's amazing to me how similar music and science are, and how one discipline reinforces the concepts of the other!
I live in Boise with my British-born wife, Sarah, who teaches ballet at Studio C in Eagle. We have 2 amazing children: my daughter Mila is 12, and my son Liam is 11.
For fun I like to run, play tennis, go to live concerts, and travel. And of course, since my wife is from Liverpool, England, we watch the Liverpool "Football" Club play every weekend! "Come On You Reds!".
