Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Madonna Smith
Twenty years ago, I was fortunate to begin my teaching adventure. I have taught many different grade levels, and at the end of each year I say that was my favorite year, but I am still trying to figure out how I can have 20 favorite years. I originally graduated from San Diego State University with my degree in psychology. I didn’t quite know what I was going to do with that, but I knew I wanted to work with kids. Quite a few years later, after doing lots of volunteering in my own children’s classrooms, I decided to become a teacher. One of my daughter’s teachers truly inspired me. So back to school I went. I received my teaching credential at California State University San Marcos, and then later went back to school and received a Master’s Degree in curriculum and instruction at Northwest Nazarene University, as well as National Board Certification in Literacy. My goal is to someday go back to school (again), and work on a doctorate in language arts.
I am one that loves to change, loves to learn, and I am really intrigued by how children learn to read so I am constantly researching and trying new strategies to help students be successful.
This will be a year filled with learning and growing for all of us in first grade, and I am so excited to share this journey with your child!
