Mrs. Pinkert-Branner

My name is Trish Pinkert-Branner (Señora PB) and I'm the chess and Spanish teacher at LCMS. I bring a creative and research-based approach to language acquisition to LCMS by focusing on building conversational skills through whole language/immersion, using cross-curricular connections, and incorporating real-world experiences. At LCMS, students will study Spanish using music, movement, art, science, math, games, as well as technology. 8th grade students will be earning high school credit and will work on proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. We have a new textbook this year for Spanish 1, so we will all be learning to use the amazing online resources together! 8th graders also have a class store they participate in once a month, which teaches them the skills needed to make purchases in Spanish. 7th grade students enrolled in the 9-week Exploratory Spanish class will study the language and culture through our passport project.

LCMS is fortunate to have a quarterly advisory class dedicated to chess--most schools have clubs that only meet a few times a month. In class, we learn about strategy, traps, rules, strengthening our openings, notation, and improving our short, timed matches (blitz chess), while rockin' out to tasty jams! The LCMS chess team placed 5th last year out of all the teams that competed at the WISCL chess tournaments at Lowell Scott Middle School. We've taken home trophies at nearly every competition and have one of the largest teams at the events, sometimes even taking on high school teams. Chess tournaments are held monthly from October to March and all LCMS students are welcome to compete, even if they aren't in chess advisory.

Apart from being a Spanish teacher and chess coach, I'm an artsy, nerdy cat lady. I love Star Wars, Doctor Who, playing lacrosse, painting, playing my guitar, watching soccer, playing Star Wars Battlefront, COD WWII and COD Ghosts, and traveling. My husband is retired from the military and is currently working on a business degree. We have two teenaged boys in high school who communicate mostly through memes, eat all our Cheetos, and will hopefully win millions playing Fortnite someday (#goals). My family and I live in Boise with our dog, Jack, and our three cats, Darth Kittious, Princess Leia, and Bubba Fett.

*Email is the best way to contact me, should you have any questions or concerns. Please check the class calendars for assignments and events, as well as links to videos and songs.*
