Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Jerome Swink
What a wonderful school and I am honored to call Lowell Scott Middle School home. Most of my 10+ years have been at the high school teaching level. It was with a bit of trepidation that I accepted a Special Education position in a middle school. All my concerns were quickly put to rest as this school, the staff, and most of all the students, made me feel right at home.
I graduated from the University of Arizona and began my teaching career as a long term substitute on a provisional certification. The University of Arizona had a federal grant program which allowed aspiring special education educators the opportunity to receive their certification through a full scholarship. I applied for the grant, interviewed with the directors of the program, and was accepted. Once I received my certification I spent an additional 3 years teaching in the Tucson, Arizona area. My son and I moved to Bisbee, Arizona where I taught an additional 3 years at Bisbee High School. Once we moved to Boise, Idaho I taught for 1 year in the Kuna School District at Kuna High School and then was fortunate to find a position in the West Ada School District where I am currently employed.
I am a very dedicated teacher and have respect for all my students. I will be the first to say that I am not perfect and I will make mistakes but we only truly learn by making mistakes, I give my students the courage to make mistakes and become better people and students because of those teachable moments. Learning should be fun as well and my goal is to find a mix which allows education to be fused with fun so my students will want to become lifelong learners.
