• This year, we will be working through Teams. Students should be able to find all necessary instructions and materials through this learning platform. I will also attach weekly agendas for each grade level to this website for easy parent access. These will show the specifics of what we are doing in class each day.

  • Current Status: Yellow-ish

As of 2nd quarter (November 17), we are in yellow with remote Mondays. This means all students will log into Teams for a short online class Monday morning with individual work in the afternoon and Team 1 students will be in the building Tuesday and Thursday & Team 2 students will be in the building on Wednesday and Friday. Tuesday thru Friday when students are not in the building, they will have work that must be completed at home.

    • When you are at home, you are still "in" school. Plan on spending approx the same amount of time learning that you would if you were in the building.
    • Procedures for at home days are different for different classes. For MY classes, students MUST log on to Teams and look for the daily announcement in our general channel. This announcement will clearly explain the tasks for the day as well as what materials are needed and where to find them. It is crucial this work is completed so students are ready for class the nex day.
    • For MY classes, logging on to Teams does not have to be done at a certain time. However, I recommend completing work during school hours so I will see any questions you post to the virtual office channel. Remember to be patient until I am able to get back to you as I am teaching other students.

Mrs. Kathy Graves

Hello and Welcome to GT!

I am the Gifted and Talented facilitator here at Star Middle School and teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade GT, English Language Arts. If you are not currently in this program but are interested, please contact me.  I would love to help you out.  If you have previously qualified for this program within the district, you are welcome--and encouraged-- to join us!

This is my 9th year as a GT facilitator, and my 13th year teaching ELA. I am passonate about reading and stories and the importance of being able to communicate well. I am also certified as a Gifted and Talented teacher and absolutely LOVE this group of kids. I strive to provide a classroom environment in which they are challenged and engaged in their learning process.

The other thing I am passionate about is my family. My husband and I have been married for 25 years and I am mom to four kids, 15-year-old triplets who are sophomores this year and a 17-year-old senior who all attend Mountain View High School! In order to see my kids off to school in the morning, I am on a modified teaching contract and am not here for first period. This does mean that it is difficult to catch me in the mornings. However, I am here after school. The best way to reach me is always via email @ graves.kathy@westada.org.
