Mrs. Linda Smith
Hello and Welcome to Eagle Middle School 6th grade Science with Mrs. Smith
I am excited to be here at Eagle Middle School. In our science class this year we will be spending our time exploring concepts in Earth Science. This will include looking and the structures, systems and cycle that shape our Earth and its atmosphere. Topics inclue Matter and Energy, Weather and Climate, Rocks and Minerals, Plate Tectonics, Natural Resources, Oceanography and Space. While exploring these topices students will partiicipate and collaborate with their fellow students in many experimental and hands on situations. They will practice and refine their skills in making observations, recording and graphing data and evaluating science related topics and questions. They will reinforce their skills in listening, speaking, thinking and problem solving.
Science isn't a "thing" we do, science isn't merely a class we take, rather science is a tool used to interpret and understand events and processes that occur in the natural world. I have a deep passion for science and it is my hope that all my students will leave my class as enthusiatic, curious learners and intrigued by the world around them.
This year marks my 30th year as a classroom educator. I have taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade sciences over the years as well as PE and STEM engineering classes. I am new to this district and this state and look forward to learning about and contributing to the community at Eagle Middle School.
I started my college work at Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA. I graduated from California State University Hayward in 1987 with a degree in Biology, and earned a teaching credential in 1989 also from CSUH and began working that year as a science teacher.
From 2004-20014 I held a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification in Early Adolescent Science Education.
I have been married for 33 years and have two adult sons. When I am not at school, I enjoy gardening, hiking, camping and may other outdoor activities, as well as watching sports on TV although Hockey is my passion.
I am looking forward to connecting and getting to know my students and sharing this school year with them.
