Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Laura Berry

Hello, and welcome to my page!

I became a member of the SMS Sixth Grade ELA team, 2018-2019 school year.  My husband and I moved to Boise after thirty years living in Carlsbad, California.  During those years in San Diego, I taught 9th, 11th and 12th grade English honors at Rancho Buena Vista, an International Baccalaureate high school.  During my tenure at RBV, I also served as the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Coordinator, and co-chaired a district wide writing program.  I love teaching, and I especially enjoy being in room 102 everyday with the best eleven year olds I know!

When I am not in my classroom, you can find me at home in my garden and yard.  It has been a fun challenge to learn how to make things grow in the Boise climate. I have a huge vegetable garden and many flower beds to weed on a daily basis.  I also enjoy hand quilting. However, I don’t have much free time these days for these fun hobbies because I am a graduate student studying Ancient Jewish Studies and Hebrew.  I am in my third year, preparing to write my thesis on first century Palestine.  This has been an interest and a passion of mine for many years.  I hope to finish my PhD in the next few years.

This year my husband and I will celebrate forty years of marriage. Our favorite vacation toghether is finding a hiking trail in a foreign country.  We have hiked 68 miles of the Cotswold’s trail, in England, and the 118 miles along the Scottish Highland Way, in Scotland.  We plan to hike a trail in Ireland in summer, 2020.  We have traveled from the northern to southern borders of Israel many times, as well as other Arab nations in the Middle East.  I really enjoy being in that part of the world whenever I can.  We have four children, all married, three grandchildren. Julia, Edie, and Floyd, and three grand-pups, Lois, Brigette, and Stanley.  We love our family and our own two darling miniature labradoodles, Jack and Bea.  We just celebrated their twelfth birthday (they are siblings) on May 10th.  They are as cute as the day we picked them up as puppies.

I love to read, watch movies, drink Diet Coke, and visit museums and art galleries.  If I could have one wish it would be to be a student for the rest of my life.
