Mrs. Amanda Birkinbine

I am a mother of seven (ages ranging from 17 to 4) and wife to an amazing husband. I love to scrapbook and be active with my kids. My husband and I keep very busy with seven, which includes triplet four-year-olds! They are a handful, but are the glue that connects our blended family together.

I am excited to get to know my new batch of students! I have a true passion for teaching. My favorite thing about my job is when I get to see students light up when something finally "clicks". I believe that all students can get better at something that they put effort and practice into. With that said I will be focusing not only on math concepts listed in the 6th grade math standards, but our class will also focus on learning how to be a hard worker and life long learner. Determination and grit are important predictors of long term success, and students will practice those learned skills through math concepts.

I love to use alternate methods to help students understand the most efficient method (traditional algorithms). I will be encouraging students to find answers in a way that makes sense to them. I don't just teach how to do something, I guide students to answer why things work in math.

I have spent 8 years building my knowledge of math and expertise of teaching at Meridian Middle School. I am excited for the opportunity to start at Victory Middle for the 2018-2019 school year. My greatest hope is to give students a taste of what mathematics really should be through talking and making/sharing connections and patterns.

Please see my calendar page for daily updates on homework assignments as well as math goals.
