General Application Process
The application period for Schools of Choice starts immediately after Winter Break and runs through mid-to-late January for enrollment for the following school year (i.e. apply in January for a space the next fall). Applications for Renaissance High School are due in early-to-mid February. Applications are available online or you may pick one up in person at any School of Choice.
Applications can be completed and submitted entirely online for all Schools of Choice. Alternatively, you can submit a hard copy directly to the school to which you are applying either in person or via mail, fax or email. Please check the most current applications for specific due dates and other important details. Online applications must be completed by the due date in order to be considered on time.
Idaho Fine Arts Academy is filled via audition.
If more students apply than seats are available at any School of Choice in any grade level, then students will be selected by random lottery. All schools, with the exception of Idaho Fine Arts Academy, will have a lottery time scheduled. The order in which lotteries are drawn is randomly selected and changes yearly. Applicants should be aware they can only be drawn for one lottery. Once an applicant is drawn in a lottery, they are removed from any subsequent lotteries. Applicants will be notified by email of the results of the lottery in mid-to-late February.
Enrolling in School
If a student’s name is drawn during the lottery for admittance into the school, they are asked to submit notice they have accepted or declined their position at the school within a given time frame. If the student accepts their position at the school, they then enroll at the school. If a student declines, or does not accept their position within the given time frame, they no longer have a place reserved for them at that School of Choice. Students declining their position at the School of Choice would then enroll at the school in their primary attendance boundary.
Shuttle bus transportation is provided for students residing in the primary attendance area. Students are picked up on the bus route that transports them to what would be their regular school. From there, students ride a shuttle bus to their school of choice.
A student’s traditional school attendance boundary is separate and apart from their School of Choice boundary. Each School of Choice has a primary boundary, and some have secondary boundaries, from which students are given preference in the lottery over those outside of their boundary borders. In-district applications are always considered before out-of-district applications in the lottery process.
Late applications are those submitted any time outside of the general application window. Late applications are considered after all on-time applications in the order they are received regardless of in-district boundary or sibling status. Out-of-district late applications are considered after all in-district late applications.
