Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Mike Matson
Welcome to Second Grade!
This is my first year teaching Second Grade and I am thrilled to be teaching at Ponderosa around some truly fantastic teachers.
I started working at Ponderosa in 2017 as the full-time building substitute. Before that I had spent the previous 6 years as a stay-at-home dad to my two children- a daughter who is in 4th grade at Ponderosa and a son who is in 2nd grade also at Ponderosa (in my class).
My wife and I moved to Idaho in 2004 when we got married and I started work as a youth pastor. My wife and I both graduated from Concordia University in Portland, OR in 2004 where I received a B.A. in Education.
Outside of school I love reading, exercising, DIY projects at home, basketball, golf, hiking, and playing with my kids. I have a dog named Rocket who is a Boxer/Lab mix which my family adoringly calls a “Boxador”. We can often be found walking together at the park in the evenings.
I love to celebrate growth in the learning process. Together in class we track and celebrate our accomplishments- reaching PACER milestones, leveling up in our reading program, making progress in math, and choosing positive mindsets. We know we are a work in progress and understand that if we can’t do something…. we just can’t do it YET!!!
