FANS TO RETURN TO HOME WARRIOR COMPETITIONS!
Dear Winter Sports Warrior Athletes, Coaches and Families,
The time you have been waiting for is close! We are excited to let you know that West Ada schools will be adopting the Idaho “High School Athletic Plan for Governor’s Order on Fans and Spectators”. This will go into effect at Meridian High School on January 7, 2021 and applies to home games only. Visitors will not be allowed at competitions. Please keep in mind that the successful implementation of this plan will be dependent on EVERYONE working together to implement this plan with fidelity.
While the governor’s order will allow 2 family members (siblings are included in this count of 2. Additional children will not be allowed) for each athlete to attend their athlete’s home event there are many expectations and restrictions that we must adhere to to make this happen for our families. Please take the time to read this document in it’s entirety in order to understand, comply and help us make this happen for our athletes.
HOW WILL THIS LOOK AT MHS FOR EACH ATHLETE SPECIFICALLY?
Each participating athlete will receive 2 vouchers for each of his/her event during the week of the event. These vouchers will be labeled with the specific game and date of the event. For example: Girl’s Basketball, JV, 1/7/2020.
CAN I WATCH ALL OF THE GAMES THAT EVENING (Frosh/Soph, JV, Varsity)?
Unfortunately, no. All fans will be cleared out at the end of each competition. Very strict disinfecting protocols will need to take place between games as well as restricting the total number of persons in the building. Therefore, all fans will immediately be moved to exit the doors to the west side of the MHS gym. Fans must completely exit the building and go to their cars.
WHERE CAN WE WAIT TO ENTER THE GYM FOR THE COMPETITION OUR ATHLETE WILL PARTICIPATE IN?
Fans waiting for an upcoming competition must remain in their cars in the parking lot. Grouping or standing in lines on campus will not be allowed. When disinfecting and clearing the gym of fans is complete an air horn will be sounded indicating that fans may begin entering the gym. We will also provide signage on the sidewalk indicating what group is currently allowed in the gym.
WHERE DO WE ENTER THE GYM AND WHAT ARE THE PROTOCOLS WHEN WE GET INTO THE GYM?
The main gate will be at the southeast corner of the MHS gym (close to construction). Due to the additional challenge the construction project gives us we will only be able to have one main gate and beg for your patience and cooperation to get all spectators into the gym in a safe and orderly fashion. While waiting to enter please be conscientious of others and maintain 6 feet of distance as well as have masks on at all times.
Once you have submitted your voucher to the gate personnel you may purchase your ticket for the game. Credit/debit cards will be the only method of payment. After paying for a ticket we ask that you go immediately up the stairs and find a seat in the upper east gym where all fans will be directed. Please sit on a marked area with an MHS sticker. NO GROUPING of friends will be allowed in the stands. All households must sit 12 feet from other households in order to meet the governor’s specifications. If fans do not comply with this expectation verbal reminders will be given. After multiple reminders fans may be asked to leave the competition and could endanger the continuation of the plan for all of our future events.
It is recommended that fans bring a towel to wipe down their area as it may still be wet from disinfecting and we will be working quickly to get fans in and out to keep competitions running on time so we will not be able to wipe down the bleachers.
WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS FOR FANS WEARING MASKS?
All fans must wear a mask at ALL TIMES when in the gym. Non-compliance with the mask mandate could result in severe consequences for our team and future fans at games. Again, it will take everyone working together to implement this plan with fidelity and the last thing administration wants to do is get into a verbal altercation with an adult about not wearing their mask. This is embarrassing for you, your athlete, and our administrators. If a fan does not comply with wearing their mask after reminder(s) they may be asked to leave the competition(s) for that evening and possible future events. Competitions may be paused or canceled in the event that there is a lack of compliance with all mitigating measures.
WHAT DO WE DO AFTER THE COMPETITION ENDS?
At the final buzzer fans will be directed to move in an orderly and safe fashion (maintaining masks and social distancing) out the west exits of the gym. Athletes will not be released until all fans have exited the gym. Fans must go directly to their cars. Please keep in mind that moving swiftly and safely is critical to keeping on track with all sanitation and game schedules for all of our athletes and coaches.
WILL RESTROOMS AND CONCESSIONS BE AVAILABLE?
Restrooms will be accessible to fans during the game (as soon as cleaning completes from the previous competition). Concessions will not be available.
This is a wonderful and exciting opportunity afforded by the governor and we are grateful that he believes in our building administration and families to work together for our student-athletes. Athletes and coaches will LOVE having their supporters in the stands! Thank you so much for helping us implement these expectations and filling Warrior gym once again with the sounds of positive cheering that we have been missing so much!
