Mrs. Lisa Giles

Welcome to Earth Science. 

    I am grew up in South Carolina.  My husband and I lived in the Washington, D.C. area for a number of years, where I had a long career in the legal field. My husband was raised in Idaho, so we moved back to Boise in 2004. I decided to return to school and to become an educator like many of the members in my family. I graduated from Boise State University in May 2008 with a B.A. in Elementary Education.  I also have a degree in Earth Science. This is my 13th year of teaching.  

Learning about the Earth, it's systems, and it's resources is usually an area of science that kids connect with easily.  I look forward to working together with you and your student this year.

 

Our four units of study include:

Semester 1: August 26, 2019 – January 16, 2020

•Earth Systems -Spheres, Energy Transfer, Natural Resources, Human Impact  ( August 26, 2019 - November 8, 2019)
 
•Earth’s History and Changing Surface– Geologic Time, Plate Tectonics, Earthquakes, Volcanoes  (November 11, 2019 - January 15, 2020)

 

Semester 2: January 21, 2020 – June 1, 2020

•Weather and Climate –Atmosphere, Meteorology, Oceans, Regional and Global Climate
 
•Space Systems –Sun –Earth - Moon, The Solar System, Motion - Galaxies, and the Universe
 

Supplies Needed: Students will need a spiral composition book, pencils, a yellow highlighter, and 10 colored pencils.

Textbook– Elevate Science Earth

This year students will use a workbook style text.  Meaning they will read and write notes in the textbook. Students will need to bring the text, interactive notebook, highlighter, and pencils to class daily.
