Hello parents and teachers!
I could not be happier to be joining the team this year at Frontier Elementary! As your child’s school counselor, my top priorities are their safety/well-being , education, and helping them succeed both in and out of school.
I obtained my Masters of Counseling degree from Boise State University in May of 2016 where I was fortunate to be trained in child-centered play therapy. I plan to use child-centered philosophies to guide my work with students. Child-centered play therapy is not so much a technique as it is a way of being with children. Using these principles has shown to increase your children’s self-esteem, self-confidence, self-regulation, and decrease problematic behaviors not only in the classroom but at home as well.
My goal as a school counselor is to empathize with students, provide a safe and confidential place for them to express and explore feelings and experiences that may be bringing difficulties into their lives, and help them to grow and learn through a trusting relationship with me. My hope is that this will strengthen relationships with others at school and at home and in turn have a positive impact on their overall lives.
Working with students one on one, teaching lessons in the classroom, and facilitating small groups is exciting to me and something I cannot wait to get started. I also am very passionate about child-centered parenting, attachment parenting, and positive discipline. If you ever have any questions or need some help with parenting strategies, please feel free to ask!
If you have questions or concerns, please reach out! I am available as a resource to not only help students, but parents and teachers as well.
